I wanted to start a thread here at fps to get the opinions of the ones who are actually playing the beta.

My opinion so far is that its well worth the money and I believe it will be around for a good while due to the custom content that will coming out in the months to come. If your expecting this game to play like COD then you will be disappointed somewhat. The avatar movement is the biggest learning curve for me so far because having played COD for all these years I'm used to moving around with ease and not used to having my sights move up and down so much. This is something that I can deal with though because it is more realistic than other shooters. I do absolutely HATE not being able to un toggle my sights. I like to be able to bring and keep my gun up by holding my right mouse button down and it automatically goes back down when I let off. The cover system is hard to get used to as I find myself getting killed alot trying to figure it out . I do think it will be very nice once I get used to it. The weapons are very good imo and I think that they are going to get better after a few minor tweaks. These are just a few things I wanted to touch on and get some feedback from you guys playing the beta , it's hard to get any good feedback on other forums due to all the cod haters and flamers.:)

its a very good game
i think all the guns are fine, weapon sway, sprinting, aim after sprinting, bandages

lean could be a bit smoother when moving, i keep over exposing myself because is "sits" when im done moving

maps look great .. when you bring up iron sights or use the zoom key its really shows itself off ... one thing though .. the corners on buildings and windows are too straight and too sharp
other than thats its great

alround great game ... and really even with the lack of TDM maps its worth the money but they better release more .. i have faith they will fix this over time
i just hope its not too late

things that do bug me ... the voices and chatter ... how are we to have a nice 2vs2 or 4vs4 when my avatar just starts talking when ever he feels like it
hard to be stealthy when when he says stupid stuff

the death moans and groans are a bit over the top

the music at the end of matches needs a option the shut it off

overall its a great game .. worth the money .. when they fix the bugs
i think is a game that we could play for the next 3 years
if the realisim nuts dont kill it
i like realisim .. but this everyones a gun expert or war historian can kill a game fast
look at the smgs from ro1 ... the rifle camping smg haters at the time would swear that was realistic

it's hard to get any good feedback on other forums due to all the cod haters and flamers.
i hear that .. im done going over to the TW forums .. that place is full of hate
bunch of tdm hating elitist snobs. i think i'll wait till cod and bf come out and maybe some of it will die off

the rifle campers have the power and the numbers to kill this game
if they get their way from TW

I've been playing the beta. I'm encouraged by the game. I know many are thinking "oh.. another WW2 shooter".. but it's refreshingly different. Highly tactical with some configurations.. and I'm already seeing a number of tactical realism servers up. I think this game caters to what PC gamers have been complaining about since CoD started going down hill. Not just the dedicated server issue which I know everyone always brings up... but the game makes you think. It's not a run and gun.. or a grab your sniper rifle and camp kinda game. You can do those things... but you'll likely not last long.. or you're left out of the action.

I'm not at all crazy about the nade throws. It's some getting used to. The smoothness of movement could be a tad better. With that said.. I don't get caught on things on the ground and I don't have problems jumping walls in the way. It just feels like clumsy movement. If I sprint and melee.. The game has me stop before the melee. If I'm running at someone to hit them with the but of my gun.. I'm not going to stop first and position myself for a melee hit. Little things.. but not game changer things.

I have a hard time hitting moving targets. I'm trying to hit them with a bit of a lead.. and dead on.. but there's a ratio in there I'm missing.. because I'm missing the shot. I find the marksman rifle to be a bit awkward as well. Normally it's the first class taken on the server but I find the elite rifleman a better choice without the scope. Feels a bit like the M14 in CoD.

The game's got it's quirks.. but we are talking about a beta here. If we start laying down standards for what a beta or alpha should be... and complain when it's not up to those standards.. why would game developers include us in the loop the next time around? Like I said... I think this is a game that the PC community has been asking for. Those that expect other game developers to all of a sudden change there PC platform formula in favor of giving the PC community what they ask for... is kidding themselves. Tripwire is already giving us what we're asking for. We as a PC community should be behind them in every shape or form. Everything from free dedicated server files to VAC and PB options.. I could go on.

In the final release... I would like to see more maps for FF because I love my TDM too.. but I also understand the devs argument. I'll wait for the final release to complain about that. If server admins are able to configure what they want eventually anyway.. then the FF maps aren't going to be an issue either.

I only have a couple of hours into the beta, but it is already starting to grow on me.

I should say I was not a huge fan of RO1, and that's mainly due to avatar movement and the fact that a three to five round burst from an smg would have me looking at the sky.

The movement feels somewhat similar, but perhaps a bit more refined. The muzzle climb is still there, but that seems to be toned down a bit as well.

It could be that my tastes have changed somewhat since the last RO, I am not really sure, but I guess it doesn't really matter how I got there as long as I am happy.

Things I like.
Shooting from behind cover and blind fire. While it's a bit clunky and needs some polishing I think its a nice feature.

I like that the emphasis is on me, my gun, and how I approach the battlefield. I am quickly growing tired of all the B.S. other AAA games are introducing these days. It's like the soldier and his gun are secondary to perks and gizmo's.

I like that I don't have to put two and a half clips into the enemy to take them out.

I love that I can have my own server up and running (which I already do) wherever and whenever I want to.

I like the fact that we will step back a number of years when we start seeing mods and maps start to roll out.

Things I don't much care for.

Graphics: While this game has really nice features and game play I honestly expected better graphics. I look at things like props. You know, fences, vehicles, rubble, sand bags, etc. I have been looking at these things and I find myself thinking they look way too simple. Maybe not MOHAA, but for sure COD 1 or 2.

I think the lighting (and I am no expert here) might have something to do with the overall look that I don't care for. It's almost like they are trying to "antique" the look of the game. If so, then great, but personally I wan't to live the time period, not watch a movie of it.

So, those are my initial thoughts, take them for what they are.

Did you replace the line?

Only other reason I can see if it's not the right location. I'm using Windows 7 and my configs are located in "<My Documents>\My Games\UnrealEngine3\ROGame\Config"

I have been playing on and off over the last few days.
This was/is one of the games I'm looking forward to playing having grown sick of the increasingly stagnant COD series.

Having said that a couple of things that come to mind that I'm not that fond of so far.

1> The spawn menu is too vague. Sometimes you can be sitting there not knowing what the hell is going on waiting to spawn.

Yes I am a nub to the RO series (although I bought Ostfront a few months ago to get a feel of the series) but I am aware of the game modes where you have to wait till the next respawn wave etc. However several times I have joined a server and sat there not knowing why I wasn't spawning as there was no indication on screen (this is after selecting a side, class and spawn-point).
I guess to put it simply, GUI is a bit too simple in some cases during spawn for me.

Otherwise I welcome the minimal GUI when actually playing.

The other thing is with no indication of where a shot is coming from like tracer or damage direction indicator and no killcam its real hard to determine where the enemy is (on larger open maps). On the more smaller maps of course I just assume the enemy is everywhere and that approach seems to work.

I don't mind getting on my belly and staying low behind cover whilst moving around in fact I welcome this aspect but it seems to encourage extreme camping on the larger maps. Maybe I'm just new to this but seems I can only tell the location of an enemy if I manage to catch a glimpse of a muzzle flash if I happen to be looking in the right direction at the right time and survive.

I like the cover system, weapons feel and sound nice and I also like the graphics.
Im playing on high settings and it seems to have a sort of grainy look which I like.

Some of the music seems a bit odd at times.

My sprint melee is already getting better (starting to think movement isn't so clumsy as it's just me needing to adjust to movement in the game).. hitting moving targets isn't so much of an issue.. I'm finding my lead time on that too. The more I play... the better the whole experience feels.

Still getting used to the nade throws... I'm used to really hucking them.. so that's prolly gonna be a bit of getting used to for me. I'm finding some wall glitches.. some places where you can put yourself up against the wall and see good portions of the map. I didn't think I was going to like the guns.. but there not bad. I'm seeing good balance and I thought I'd find some issue because I always do have a problem with one thing or another when it comes to gun balance.

My game browser works well unless I'm already in a server. I notice a bit of drag and delay using the game browser in game compared to not being in a server. No server.. no issues for me.

I'm still trying the different classes.. so I can't really ccomment on all of them.. but the marksman seems a bit awkward with his rifle for some reason... I'm still liking the elite rifleman better.

On TE servers the classes I want to try always get grabbed by the first ppl in the server, so now I've resorted to playing with bots on the server. Setting min players to 24.. has me playing with 23 bots... 11 my team.. 12 their team.. and I play whatever class I feel like. If a real player joins.. then a bot drops. If a real player leaves.. a bot joins. It's a nice system. I don't recommend playing with bots.. but if you're looking to try the game.. it opens a few doors for you to try without the hassle of dealing with real players camping... or always grabbing the marksman.. or crying.

After the patch yesterday all I get is the old servers in my ranked section of the browser. Tried the fixes that they have on their forums but none help. I can see updated servers in my favs and recently played tabs so all is still good. Some of the 64 slot servers (when full ) are lagging a little and seem to have some weird things going on. I noticed that some times on the loadout screen I would not have a pistol but it was in the game and other times it was gone in game and on the loadout .
Has anyone had trouble with auto-balance ? I seem to get switched at least three times per map even if I was in the game from the beginning.
The maps are really nice I would have to say , the layouts and the size are a great change from the rat mazes on BO.

So far I am really liking this game and seem to be getting better at it also but it's still a little hard to get used to the movement but I am learning

**** The browser is now working fine for some reason ****

After the latest rounds of patches the game runs so much better than before. I was underwhelmed by the graphics quality at first. Now it's looking amazing and runs so very well. I had my first game on a server populated by bots, I was surprised by how good it was. I'm having fun with the game. Now all I have to do is get the rest of my clan to play it.

I'd agree. After the last patch.. I brought everything back up to Ultra and the game is much smoother for me at that level. I'll still lower my graphic settings for playing online..because It does effect my FPS a bit still. But the game looks awsm.. and it's clear they're working to have many issues solved before release. There's always issues at release.. but with their efforts here... there will be fewer IMO. Bravo.

I've had just the opposite experience. The game was running real smooth before the latest patch but now I have tremendous lag for some reason . Pavlov'sHouse drops my frame rates from 90 to 20 even with my graphics set to their lowest settings . Hopefully the majority of issues will be corrected tomorrow . Has anyone heard when the preload will start ?

I have experienced the same thing. The game was running just fine after the 1st patch. But the second patch has entroduced a lot of lag into the game. I really notice it when airstrikes are called in. Not sure what the cause is, but I am confident they will get it figured out.

I am really enjoying the overall game play.

Well I have played the Beta a couple of times and I enjoy it so far. Pretty much prefer going rifleman as I used to love playing rifle only servers on MoHAA. The maps are fairly big and I like the game mode territory which has a good blend of team work going on. VOIP also sounds good with people using it which I like especially playing on obj game modes.

The only thing I didn't like or will need to get used to, is that I find it difficult to tell if I have actually killed someone or not. As there is no hit indicators, which I'll add doesn't bother me too much, it's hard to tell if my shot was on target and that I managed to kill them. I have noticed it tells you in the right hand corner but does it show after each kill? Sometimes I feel it's hard to tell.

I do hope they add a country filter for the server browser. Really in all modern games a country filter should come as standard.

There are some issues such as climbing over stuff which sometimes doesnt work especially in the trenches. It could be the server I was playing on and my ping making it seem that I couldn't climb out.

Also how many arty strikes does the opposite team's commander get as there seemed to be a constant barrage at one point last night? Is there a cool down period at all?

For those having issues since the last patch make sure you re-check your video settings as it overwrote a lot I found. :)
