Sledgehammer has posted a tutorial on how to run Private Matches (also known as "listen servers") and dedicated servers on their site:

http://sledgehammergames.com/blog/view/98

Some key points for Private matches:

- No CFG file in use

- MW3 uses a similar "playlist" system as BlackOps - Now called "RECIPE"

- you create/customize your gamemode and then can save the "recipe" to disk (saved as textfile .dsr)

- you can also create a .dspl file which contains the map rotation

Some key points for Dedicated server setup:

- The dedicated server tools are avail from Steam - Im assuming here that once downloaded they are standalone, as it was confirmed that STEAM was NOT REQUIRED to run Dedi servers.

- CFG Config files are in use - GOOD NEWS, no playlist by the looks of it.

- Familiar console window opens up to take "exec xxx.cfg" or type in commands.

Been trying for the past hour to get a server up and running. No luck, always getting this unable to load map error.

You don't need Steam running, you don't need the game installed, server files are 13.7 GB

I'm doing something wrong with the set up. It's different then COD4/WaW

After I installed the server files it is 13.7 GB.

I meant you don't need Steam to run the server, yes you need Steam to download the files.

No matter what I try, always getting "could not load map rotation" error.

Yes, I followed those instructions.

Maybe I need to create a recipe???

I copied my modified files (I assumed that's what the recipe function does) to the admin folder.

On reading the tutorial first it looks like PM are not the same as Dedi servers but i think they are linked. So you can try creating those "recipe" files and then putting them in Admin then try launch server again. Even though the Server uses CFG files the map rotation might still be required to be in a .DSPL file....

I had 4 servers running before the master server was up now the master servers are up all i get is this in console:

version 1.2.358
Connecting to online services.....
Connected to online services.
Executing server config "server.cfg"
]start_map_rotate
Succeeded reading from default.dspl
Loaded 5 map entries
Loading DSR "TDEF_default.dsr"...
Loading Succeeded for DSR "TDEF_default.dsr"
Invalid server configuration - insufficient upstream bandwidth 0 kbps for 8 clients. Minimum 250 kbps required.

That is from my attempt on my own pc but get the same on our Dedi box.

Any ideas on how to solve this all other Cod games we have run servers with no problems.
