Hi all, I will collate all your questions in this thread. Please have a read of what we know about the server HERE first, then fire away. Feature Suggestions are also welcome, though those are getting a little time critical now. :D

Known Details

Questions:

In Regards to all servers being Ranked

Will this mean mostly locked server settings? Yes

Can we expect the ability to modify things like spawntime?
No

What about extreme changes like prohibiting certain weapons? vehicles?
No, although it is possible to set the game up to be infantry only.

Will there be any way for essentially unranked play for competition that has all the weapons unlocked for an even playing field? No

If/when you introduce mod tools, will a mod server be able to access the "locked dvars"? Mod tools are not scheduled for release at this time.

So i assume that the main server cfg file will an .ini? Yes

Can you set -multihome in the command line in order to run more servers from the same box?
Yes
What rcon protocol(s) are you guys using?

Are multiple IP's allowed for servers on the same box? YES

Is there going to be an autobalance feature? If so, will admins be able to move players to the opposite team to balance the server if the teams get lob-sided? YES

Will there be some sort of MOTD, (Message of the Day) similar to Source games? Kind of like a huge welcome banner, with the server rules, etc? YES

Does the server exe support multi core and multi thread?
YES

if your making an Rcon will you also have a webadmin?

Yes, we are releasing RCON, however we are not releasing a webadmin application, but we have all the support required for 3rd party tool development implemented.

Will we be able to run a 3rd party Anti Cheat?
We currently support VAC, permanent banning based on unique player ids, as well as a few other anti-hack measures.

Will we be able to give players reserved slots? If the server is full, for example, it will kick a player on the server for the person with the reserved slot.
This can be implemented via the functionality we expose for 3rd party server management tools. We will patch in additional support for this in the future.

Will we be able to put 'image banners' on the loading screen of our server to advertise our respective clans/communities?
Not in the shipping build, we may patch this in if there is sufficient demand. We do support MOTD’s etc of course.

Will there be the ability to add scrolling server messages, similar to how COD and BF do it?
Not in the shipping build, we may patch this in if there is sufficient demand.

Post launch, will the PC Players be able to play on higher then 32 slot servers?
Not in the shipping build, we may patch this in if there is sufficient demand.

Will there be a PC Demo
A demo has not been announced.

will there be features that will allow for Clan matches or league and ladder competitive play to take place.
Things like a ready up feature, halftime team switching, round number selection

There will be features that allow for clan matches/League competitive play. Currently we support the following.
1.Intermission timer (Currently 60 seconds but are working to make this a setting in the console of the server and be variable.)
2.Console ability to switch members to a team. Ability to swap teams as a player as well.
3.Support for Clan Tags. (Support for team selection based on clan tag is in development.)
4.Support for private dedicated servers.
5.RCON access.
6.Ability to make a admin (or anyone) a spectator via console.
7.Ability to turn on and off auto-balance.
8.Ability to run the server in “Mixed Mode” with maps from the TDM or GC in rotation.

The following features are being evaluated for a future patch:
1.Ready Up Timer (Idle time with no player interaction after intermission but before actual round start allowing time to select a kit and a spawn point.)
2.Halftime team swapping/switching. (Ability to change a whole team to the other side for a balanced play experience.) *** Please note that there is no real advantage currently to either side in the form of weapons or spawns. So feature may be mute.***
3.Round Number Selection. The ability to run a map a set number of times. (Note. This is already possible by placing a map into the map list more than once.)

Will there be a hardcore mode available, as in less health, no crosshairs, no HUD etc
Not in the shipping build, we may patch this in if there is sufficient demand.

Is there a reserved slot system?
See above.

Will banning be done by GUID or can you ban based on other factors such as IP address or player name?
Players are uniquely identified in bans, changing IP address or name will have no effect. The banned player would require a different steam account.

I heard on the Bash and slash podcast that it does run in offline mode for single player (ie: Steam not required to play). Why not for LAN?
We require an internet connection so that we may provide Steamworks statistics, leaderboard and advertising functionality for LAN play.

Anything answered I will mark in Red and put at the top to save people asking it again. :salute:

Things like a ready up feature, halftime team switching, round number selection, round time limits, screenshot and demo recording.

I see that Edmar has said the whole game has to be put onto your server box.

Is there not anyway that Kaos can reduce the amount of files needed to run a server?
Surely we don't need to place any single player related files on our boxes for instance?

Wait, I thought I read some place that this publisher WAS giving mod tool support. There really is no plans for mod tool support or the ability to create a mod for competition play?

Really?

I think I may need to re-think this and cancel my pre-order. Was excited to. :(

It's a shame really that they are not providing the pc community with the tools they need and require.

Supporting the pc community would go a long way for them. I just don't understand that attitude.

While it's nice to have mod tools to make maps and basic competition mods but honestly I think anyone looking to making a total conversion today is better off using the UDK which is free.

Not really imo. The UDK might provide easy ability to create new content like maps, player models, weapons but the CORE of game (feature like ADS, HUD, menus, gametypes, ranking to name a few) can be a lot harder to code in hence one would want to use SDK that comes with Homefront based on UDK. If on top of this Kaos include some game assets then it becomes a lot easier for smaller mod team to start a TC project.

I do not want to ability to do a total conversion. I just wanted a PC game that would have a long life span. The ability of the PC community to make mods and maps, plus a way to have a competition mod for those interested in that gives any game a longer life span. I really thought this developer was providing that.

What Kaos has said was that IF the demand was there then they would release Modtools/SDK. The question I have to KAOS is: How will you measure that demand for Modtools :p ? Can i spam your forums once game is gold :D ?

Yea, good question. I still am not sure about pre-ordering this now. I mean Black Ops said they were having mod tool support. Its the biggest release ever and we are still waiting and waiting for that dev. team to delivery. Not sure I want to play the wait and see game again.

Great comment Zeroy and Ski.
Firstly how does Kaos qantify sales amounts that warrants release of mod tools.

Second if we do not buy in massive amounts so they can have sales income to develop, then we are hooped. (Re: Mod tools)

Typical Catch 22.

To buy or not to buy....

From what I have seen and heard from Kaos I probably will buy but will wait 1 month to see reviews on how the game behaves.

Not a reflection on Kaos at all.

But on what we have had to witness with the big names in the industry and this past year track record.

Couldn't have said it better than that. Perhaps those of us who want those things are in a generally ignored minority, but for those of us looking for those things, sales hinge on whether mod tools will be released.

I believe Kaos think that in the long term mod tools will benefit them but not at release.
Because its a new IP they will need to foster the community and let it grow.
Mod tools may just fracture the community so early in its life but a few months down the line it could benefit Kaos enormously by breathing new life into the gamer and its community.
