An FPS Server guide for developers
It's not rocket science and to be honest, most if not all of these features have been around for some time. However we keep seeing new games released, with a lot of these basic features missing.
Click here to view the list of features we've been asking for since 2001

In WTF was he smoking news
May 23, 2013 - 7:36 AM - by rudedog
EA CTO Rajat Teneja is stating that the new PS4 and Xbox1 is more powerful then current gen PCs.
"Our benchmarks on just the video and audio performance are 8-10 times superior to the current gen," Teneja continued. "The compute capabilities of these platforms and the data transfer speeds we can now bank on, essentially removes any notion of rationing of systems resources for our game engines."
Someone should tell Mr. Teneja, that the old EA forum server is not current gen...

It'll be interesting to see how these next gen console games get ported to the PC. I guess if, it's another terrible port its just bad programming and not programing for the lower common denominator (the console) this time around.

EA: “We Did What We Said We’d Do With BF3,” Premium Earns 3.5 Million Subscribers
May 08, 2013 - 1:32 PM - by woowoo
“There will be exciting new developments for the Battlefield brand as fiscal ’13 progresses,” said Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director John Riccitiello during an EA Q4 FY13 earnings call earlier today.

Looking back, he states, “we did what we said we’d do with Battlefield. Battlefield 3 took very significant share from the leading competitor, on its way to being one of the biggest selling titles in EA history.”

Peter Moore, Chief Operating Officer, added, “our Battlefield brand has been pushing the edge of online combat for 10 years, and along the way assembling a huge community with tremendous expectations. As we predicted, Battlefield 3 took market share last year, and more importantly, millions of players are still online, deeply engaged in this game.”

Recent reports indicate that Battlefield 3 Premium has earned over 3.5 million subscriptions to date, earning $120 million in revenue through the March quarter.

Looking forward, EA hopes to repeat their success and accomplish even more with Battlefield 4, releasing this fall, going head-to-head with Activision’s recently announced Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Detailed in a recent agreement with Disney, EA also hopes to produce strong results with games based in the Star Wars universe with developers like DICE (Battlefield) and Visceral Games (Dead Space).

Wolfenstein: The New Order
May 07, 2013 - 12:53 PM - by rudedog
Looks like Blues News is reporting on the reboot of Wolfenstein, called The New Order
The New Order is set in 1960 after the Nazis won World War II. Gamers play as the familiar American war hero B.J. Blazkowicz and are tasked with launching an "impossible counter-offensive" against the Nazi powers that have taken over the world.

Set in Europe, The New Order will have players infiltrating Nazi strongholds and battling legions of enemies, while taking control of "super weapons" that the Nazis have used to dominate earth--"and beyond," Bethesda teased.

EA annouces exclusive publisher for the Star Wars franchise
May 07, 2013 - 8:58 AM - by rudedog
Gameasutra posted some interesting news today:
The publisher announced today it has landed an exclusive multi-year agreement to develop and publish games based on Lucasfilms' Star Wars universe.
This bit is what I find most interesting and something I always hoped for in regards to a very enjoyable Star Wars game......
All of the games will be powered by DICE's high-powered Frostbite 3 engine, the same engine that powers Battlefield 3.
Maybe instead of BF2142 we'll see that realized in the Star Wars universe. Can't wait to see where Dices engine takes the franchise.
