Question CoD4 Server - Direct-X Encountered an Unrecoverable Error.

Hi all,

I have a server running windows server 2012, and having an issue whilst trying to launch the cod4 server.. I get an error saying "Direct X encountered an unrecoverable error". I have looked around the web for this for the past 2 days >.<. Everyone is saying it's an nvidia driver issue, however, the server has no nvidia GPU (onboard intel graphics). I still tried the fix though, but when launching the installer, to no surprise it wouldn't continue, as it couldnt find an nvidia GPU.

On my old server running server 2008 R2, I remember having to enable .net 3.5 support in the server manager, and I have done it on this server too, but sadly, it's still not launching..

I am currently trying to run the server in compatibilty mode for XP with SP3 - but guess what? Still not working .

Any help will be massively appreciated!

Have you tried running the Microsoft Direct X runtime installer?

Yeah i've tried that 4 or 5 times

Right - when i run it in compatibility mode for XP, Vista + win 7, it just crashes, but the DX error only comes when i don't run it in compatibility mode.

I have done a search on the error code i got from event viewer (0x0027782e) and a lot of people said it's audio or something - but being a dedicated server it has no audio devices! This is getting on my nerves a lot!

I have tried doing sfc /scannow to ensure everything is okay, and it came back with no integrity violations.

Is it something really obvious i'm missing? o.O What i've done so far is:

installed OS
done windows updates
uploaded cod4 to server
installed .net framework
Enabled .net 3.5 in server manager
installed direct x
installed pb updates

Man this annoying! I'm about to try and check for updates again, and reboot the server, and see what happens

An old trick was to delete the entire main/video folder if it's on your cod4 dedicated server setup.

Post your start-up command line.

Already deleted the /video folder :/

My startup line is

....iw3mp.exe" +set_dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +set ui_maxclients 54 +exec server01.cfg +map_rotate

Just restarted it after doing some system updates, but it still doesn't launch
