What does an upset PC community look like?

I think by now most PC community have heard or read about the news that Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 will not have dedicated servers and a few other things, we all would come to expect from a FPS title released in 2009. Hell we had most of that stuff in 2001, see my "An FPS Server guide for developers" I wrote back in 2007.

On Saturday's BashandSlash Infinity Ward's community manager joined us to discuss some of the PC features for their up and coming Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare 2.

I would also like to take a moment to say THANK YOU Rob Bowling for coming on the show and giving us some information regarding our platform of choice. Granted it was not the news we wanted to hear but that does not matter. All we wanted at that time was for someone to give us some information about the PC platform. For that I say again Thanks (next time come with some better news ). Now back on topic.

Rob Bowling, community manager at Infinity Ward was kind enough to join our panel on BASH today. He let us in on the news that IW was taking Modern Warfare in a new direction. The online game on PC has changed. Dedicated servers are out. IW.net is in.

This is a game changer and many of you may not be too happy. I for one will be willing to listen and try it out. It’s all I can do.
For the folks in our community that mod and map, the future does not look as bright as the past.

Note that Modern Warfare will be released on the PC PS3 and Xbox360 on Nov 10th 2009.

Note that there are plenty of big named sites on this list, what IW should be paying very close attention to is all those smaller sites, where the members are much closer and they tend to stick together when deciding to purchase or in this case not purchase a new PC game.

Also note that this list has been sent to Activision but as of this writing we have not received a reply.

i find it ironic that the one thing that a developer could do to dissolve our PC community ends up being the reason why we all come together.

i have never seen such a strong grass roots force opposing a devoleper. I was not here for the cod2 PB problem so i can't compare it to then however i find that this campaign to urge IW to give us dedicated servers has a strong following. One cannot be ignored without dire consequences to them.

A lot of it is because of you Rudedog. I personally appreciate what you are doing and i hope that everyone else does as well.
I am aware that others are helping in ways they can however i get all my fps news from rudedog so i am not familier with them. If you are helping the community by trying to get dedicated servers for MW2 i thank you as well.

Just a footnote. I posted that MW2 on Amazon.coms 100 best seller list had dropped to #73 and apparently that a 64 place drop..

You know whats even more messed up? If they only get 100,000 people to stop buying this game it won't even make a dent into their corporate wallets.

5,000,000...6?....7? I don't even know how many was sold on console along with Mappacks, PC version is only a small fraction I bet though. I am not saying buy or dont buy it by any means, but I just hate that something as moving as this cause will only be a flea on the corporate back of this game for a loss for them.
