What I would really like to know right now is how IWNet will work. It sounds like Valve and Steam have partnered with IW to host MW2, Its an Interesting turn.

During the "interview" 402 did state that it is a seperate venture, and steam is not involved directly with IWNet.

No because if Steam were involved we would be able to host our own servers the same ways as we can host L4D, RO, etc etc etc

Can someone please explain how IW.net, Steam, and locally hosted servers all tie in together????
Will we even have a choice of what server we want to play on?

Pen as far as the GSP, I wrote a editorial of sorts yesterday cautioning GSPs to wait and not jump into anything as we didn't know what to expect. Boy did I call that one......
To recap
- No dedicated servers
- Only listening, in which you have to use IW-net + steam (not sure how that works)
- Must have graphics card and a lic of the game for each server or each rented customer.
- VAC via steam for AC
- Private servers can be customized by turning features on and off and will be hosted on your own connection
- public serves will be hosted via IW-net
- no mods or custom maps as of right now. - no idea when and if MOD tools are released.
They want to turn the PC and their IW-NET into XBL
Sorry guys, this community has nothing to support in regards to MW2.

Agreed.
How many clans have servers into which they can install a graphics card powerful enough to install the game? (hmmm yes mr pc salesman I want a 1mb graphics card I can fit into a 1U rackmount. Honest mr DC provider I really wont be using that many extra amps with my 1mb graphics card installed. Heat what heat? No siree no extra cooling requirements in your racks)
With No Mods how can ladders set up customised rule sets?
With No mods they can do what the really want to do and charge us for DLC in the same way as they fleece console kiddies.
oh god I could go on and on here but for sanities sake I suppose I should stfu

If only it was as simple as this!
You have to imagine that this IW Net crap or whatever is going to be just like the lobby for Zombies/Coop on CODWAW. What it means is that the EXE will not have command support to be run without hardware acceleration, let alone issuing command to start/stop etc!
We will know very soon: If the join in Progress isn't there thats it, the end. Because that would mean that the session are entirely control by Human intervention (meaning, everyone ready? Press F10 to start).

So the server is hosted locally, but it streams through IW.net?

Yes, its P2P - think a PC version of XBL, where the XBL Master Server "introduces" you to hosts, and then directs your IP to that host.
