We've been running a server since the demo was released. Today, I installed the new server application after uninstalling the old one.
This evening I jumped on our server and noticed that I was seeing some serious lag issues. Being an admin I was quick to assume that it was my machine or my connection so I jumped out of the game to check everything out.
My pc and connection was fine, so I remoted into the server and saw that the BF2 dedicated appliction was using 700,000+k of ram!!! And CLIMBING!
We never had this issue before, sad part is that this was an issue that was supposed to be fixed with the patch!

All server admins are seeing it. I can't even a imagine how a memory leak this big got through testing. It leaks just sitting there with no one on it for crissake. EA better be on this fast, or there's going to be a lot of really pissed off people/customers.

Same problem here discovered it this morning. Thankfully the server has 2 GB of ram.........
Solution for now: Restart the game service every 12 hours. :undecided

It would be interesting to know if the "Ranked" dedicated server application has the same memory leak issues.......

By what I found out last night...randomly sampling several "ranked" servers...they are having the same problem. Most of the servers I connected to were unplayable, the lag was so bad.

Ranked server has the same issue. The ranked server files are no different than the public files, with the exception of the additional files that report to the ranking servers.

I played a bit last night, on a couple of ranked servers, and had no lag on either. I think everyone is re-booting periodically. Woody looked at his server yesterday (with me watching over his shoulder), and saw that RAM usage was increasing, slowly, but still increasing, as we watched...hmmm.

It seems empty servers eat up 4kb per second
Populated servers 12kb per second.
Almost forgot, I tested with pb on and pb off. No difference.

BoSbrain posted that in the submit news section but I'm a little leery about posting that just yet.
From exsperiance, it may take them a little longer then we expect. Also any news from non-US EA is not that reliable (no offense towards our non-US members)

Rude, any chance of getting EA to confirm?

They are a bit late on the "statement" too.

Community Update - 7/8/05
HOTFIX for Battlefield 2 v1.01 Coming Soon
First off, a HUGE thanks to all of you who emailed me in regards to the memory leak found in the update we released earlier this week (v1.01). Your emails found their way to our production team and they’re in the process of evaluating what needs to be done in order to get this fixed. In the meantime, and since the 1.01 update is causing memory leakage on some systems, we recommend that you reinstall the game and NOT the v1.01 update we released earlier this week.
Reinstalling Battlefield 2 will not affect your in-game medals or ranked server statistics. EA and DICE are committed to getting a fix for v1.01 as soon as we possibly can and will continue to keep you informed through this web space in the coming days.
[EA]Mike
If you have a file site that is hosting v1.01, I would ask that you remove the file. If you’re hosting the Unranked Server Files for Win32 and Unranked Server Files for Linux (the new ones we made available earlier this week – on Tuesday), I would ask that you remove those as well since the same problem exist in them. As a replacement for the server files, please visit our downloads page and grab the previous versions (see the first 2 files on this page).
