Can anyone confirm that there is a bug regarding BF2 and Hyperthreading on Intel P4 ?
I have received several messages regarding this the last few days. It seems that if you have a P4 and HT is enabled in bios you could be experiencing sudden disconnects from online servers. Several users have reported that this bug can be fixed by setting HT enable = NO (disabled) in the bios of their mainboard.
And the problem automagically goes away.

Fact or fiction ?

I currently run a P4 3.02 EE with HT enabled and have not had any problems with disconnecting.

However I did get kicked because of PB not being updated but the error message said it was a PB kick for 0 minutes. This was while I was evaluating the game for EA before the release date so PB might not have been auto updating. Manually updating PB fixed my problems.

As of today with only about 2-3 hours of BF2 play this afternoon and yesterday no issues with connections.

Thanks for the info.
A few of my users seem to be sure that the HT "bug" is real, they claim to be able to get the bug back if they enable HT again. So I'm not sure what to believe. I also note that you have a EE (I guess that means Extreme edition) version. The bug is not reported on Xeons, only on socket 478 and early socket 754 (530/540) Cpu's (older designs maybe).
And I find it very strange that, the users that report this can play 3-4 hours with no problems with HT disabled, and they will get disconnected within 30 mins when HT is enabled.
They also claim it happens mostly during map changes or when a new player enters the game.
With HT enabled you will have "two" cpus, that might suggest that something is out of sequence during processing on HT or SMP platforms.

I'm not sure what to believe as I don't have the game installed yet. But I find it strange that 4 out of 4 users with this problem now seems to be able to play without getting disconnected anymore. And the only thing they had in common was a Intel P4 (all different Graphics card/motherboard etc.)

Yes, EE=Extreme Edition.

I'm seeing the map change bug reported on several forums. I wonder if this has anything to do with the issues EA is having with their stat servers?

I will send an email off tomorrow but they will not likely see it until Monday, which I will be away. I should be able to check my email and will post back ASAP. I will also use this thread as reference.

EDIT: just sent a message to EA. I referenced this thread, so anyone else that can add more info or confirm disabling HT fixes the problem, please post here

Rude, isn't this the so-called Linux-32 bit server version kicking everyone off during round change?

Cuz that seems to be THE serious issue now. Linux servers running at 32 bit end up empty because at the end of every round the servers boots everybody off and back to desktop. :undecided

This is win32 server not *nix (running on windows 2000)
