I hope someone can give me some advice on this, I've tried working with my server host as well as EvenBalance and neither has been able to resolve this issue yet...

Recently, we've had some players getting kicked from 2 of our servers for "PB Client in Distress - Cannot Authenticate with PB Server (A1342)" and "PB Server Requires (A1342 C1.172) - error loading pbag"

This only happens on our servers that are setup for TWL ladder/league play. One server is for CoD (209.67.61.245:28970) and the other is for UO (209.67.61.245:28972).

I have experienced this personally now that I just reinstalled CoD and CoD:UO. Prior to reinstalling I had no such problems, but I saw many other players visiting our servers get the same errors.

I have followed the instructions from the FAQ on EvenBalance.com to run PBWEB.exe on my client. I have also manually downloaded the PB client files into my PB home directory. I still get the same error.

I am also the server admin for these servers. I have followed the instructions for manually updating the PB server files as per the Support documentation on the EvenBalance.com website. I still get the same error.

I have also had my server host run the PBWEB.EXE directly from the /pb directories on each of the servers. Still get the same errors.

What is really strange is that I don't get the error on our other two public servers: CoD Public(209.67.61.245:28971) and UO Public(209.67.61.245:28973)

What else can I try to get this resolved? Is it possible that the updated PB files on the server are getting overwritten be older versions? Or does this sound more like a client problem?

Thanks in advance for your input.

This error is a mismatch in versions between client and server. It could be that the clients haven't updated, if your server is current. From PUNKSBUSTED:

Currently: Server v1.150 - Player: v1.172 A1347

Have you hoster do a manual reinstall of PB for you and then rerun pbweb.exe. It's quite easy, the directions can be found on the evenbalance website.

If your hoster still has trouble... look in my signature ;)

Definitely check your version of pb by using /rcon pb_sv_ver and confirming all 3 values with what is on the front page of Evenbalance's website. If they are not the same, you can manually update pb by using /rcon pb_sv_update. The only problem with doing it that way is that you have to do it several times before it actually works, and then it only updates one value at a time. So you could end up doing it 30 or 40 times before you are finally completely updated.

thanks for the info guys.

Rock, you were right...I ran a pb_sv_ver and the two servers were not running updated Pb files. But now I'm wondering why the PBWEB.EXE that the host ran didn't update them. Well, I've asked them to uninstall/reinstall PB from both servers and then manually update the files from EvenBalance.

we'll see how this goes... ;)
