Ok,
what is a speedtouch 330 usb ? is it cable or dsl access?

Also, where is the dedicated server? is it a seperate machine or your own computer?

-= 1.st let's think that dedicated server is a second computer ,2nd let's hope it's wired throug a router, and finaly config files are in proper shape. Now did you opened you'r router port for your I.P address on your dedicated computer, if you don't your server will not show on server list =-

Just to clearify, you do NOT have a router? If you do, you need to open port 28960, if you don't, then you may want to try disabling your firewall, start cod, then try to find it.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE FAST RESPONCE

You need to find out if your adsl modem has some kind of NAT enabled. If it does, this will stop people outside of your network from ever seeing your server.

Either way starting a dedicated server and playing a seperate client all on the same machine could cause you problems if you plan on having a signficant amount of players.

Well, I did a short bit of research on the Speedtouch 330 USB, and found that you're never going to get it to work correctly for what you want to do. I opened their rather large User's Guide and looked for anything that smacks of "port forwarding"...no joy.

FYI...in order for people to connect to your server, you need:

An external IP address (since this is ADSL, you external IP address is going to be 'dynamic'...in essence, your ISP can change this anytime they feel like it). This address, obviously, needs to be visible to your players.
The ability, via a router or router/firewall to perform either NAT (as Rockmonster mentioned), or, simple "port forwarding". What this says to the world: if traffic comes in to the EXTERNAL address, on port 28960 (which is the default for CoD(UO) game servers), send it to this INTERNAL address (the address of your game server).
You're not even doing full TCP/IP (I believe)...not over USB. You're doing some odd PPPoE (dial-up) via the USB cable from your PC to the ADSL modem (Speedtouch), so port fordwarding is pretty much out of the question.

So, what do you do? Well, if it was me, I'd get rid of that Speedtouch and buy a LinkSys DSL modem...they're cheap, and easy to set up. Check with your ISP, though, to see what DSL modems they support...some are genuine dickheads about hardware for some odd reason. Then, I'd buy a router/firewall, like a LinkSys or a Netgear...they're also cheap, and both come with built-in switches so you can add other PCs when you want.

See this document: http://www.olddogvt.net/cod-firewall for how to do a proper home-based CoD(UO) server setup. Because you have ADSL, you will need to make sure of your external IP address, and that everyone knows what it is. There's a section in the document on how to do that as well. You can have the greatest server in the world, but it will be relatively worthless if people don't play on it.

BTW, if you're interested, you can find the user's guide at http://www.speedtouch.com/support.htm.

I know this is gonna sound basic, but I notice that you have XP with service pack 2 ........

Have you told the windows built in firewall that you want the program to access the internet ?

Also, where do you see it ? In the list of INTERNET servers or your LOCAL tab ?

If it just appears in the local tab, then you know that your server isn't seen by others, and therefore could be the situation above.

Yeah, I hear you, darkmuppet, but I don't think anything is actually getting TO his server via this setup. But, it IS worth a look at the XP firewall, if one, or, do you have another, 3rd-party firewall, like Symantec or McAfee??

Here's a quote from the Speedtouch 330 FAQ:

Does the SpeedTouch USB/330 support NAT/PAT ?

No. A USB modem can have only 1 host ( 1 computer ) and is usually meant for a single user. NAT/PAT functionality is not logical in this environment. Connection sharing is possible through external programs ( i.e. Internet Connection Sharing in MS Windows ).

So, this device is not going to know where inbound traffic is supposed to go. It probably (hopefully) DISALLOWS unsolicited inbound traffic. If it isn't, then he's got worse problems than a game server not working...my mother could drive a truck through his system if the Speedtouch allows just ANY traffic inbound.

Let me ask this, though, rasco...I just scrolled down and looked again at some of your responses...you say you opened 28960, but don't have a firewall? In what did you open the port? If not a firewall? Also, can you post your EXTERNAL IP address? You can find out what it is by going to http://www.myipaddress.com/. I'll see if I can ping, or even connect.
