I wrote this doc with the following equipment:
Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical (5 button)
Microsoft IntelliMouse 4.1 software
Windows XP
You need to install the IntelliMouse software, that came with your mouse or download here (http://www.fpsadmin.com/download/index.php?dlid=182)
Once installed, click on the IntelliMouse tray icon or shortcut listed in your start menu, to bring up this menu
check off "enable program-specific button settings"
http://www.codadmin.com/nuke/modules/htmlarea/upload/admin_36.jpg
Now click the settings box
click "Add" then browse for your CoDMP.exe located in C:\Program Files\Call of Duty (if installed in the default folder)
Assign the mouse buttons to the CoD keystroke you wish to use.
As show below, you can see I use my side buttons to lean left and right.

Click OK
Start Call of Duty and see if your side buttons are working . If not, make sure that the letters you chose above correspond to the correct command you wish to use.
That should be it.

The pictures in this thread don't show, so I can't see the commands you're using to bind the keys to. Do I type in the commands or do the commands show for me?

Sorry I've looked and looked and can't find the images. these shots where from my very old site MOHadmin and CoDadmin.com back in early 2003.
If you can get me a screen shot of the mouse control panel I can try and walk you through
sorry

Actually I got rid of that mouse. Now I'm using a Logitech MX 518. I tinkered around with it but was unable to map it. Not that I'm great with this stuff though. Do you have any experience with that one? I'd love to map the buttons I have available... and thanks a lot for your time whether you can help or not.

Not the MX518 specifically but I currently use the G7, which should have the same software.
Make sure you load the full logitech software/drivers. Then simply go into the setpoint control panel -> select mouse-> select button-> click on the button you wish to program-> select keystroke and then map the key you wish to use.
What I do is map specific keys then use those keys in different games for different things.
hope this helps

Would you give me the commands to use for CoD UO if I were to map them through the console?
I installed the software and picked some keystrokes for those keys I want to use. I went in to the game options and selected the lean commands. When I pressed the keys I want to use for the lean commands the game did not change them, if I'm explaining this good enough. I think I may be able to map them through the console but don't know what to type.
Is it simply
bind mousebutton 4 leanleft
or something like that?

I got it!
FYI - here's what I had to do.
Through the logitech control panel I had to assign button 4 and 5 to ctrl and alt keys (respectively in my case). In the game console when I assigned the lean commands it recognized the keys as the ctrl and alt keys.
In my case, I'm almost losing the function of those keys for other commands, but I don't personally use them anyway. I have reassigned the commands that were bound to those keys by default.
I also learned that through the ingame console I can type
bind mouse1 attack
and that will make the gun shoot.
I found this out by typing
bind mouse1
and it gave me the command assigned to mouse1. I didn't know it worked like that. Thanks for your help!

okay - last post a month ago - sorry for reactivating this thread but i don't have problems with my mouse.
i own a 5-button intellimouse and i never installed the driver software. cod2 recognizes ALL buttons. :)
the only thing i did was binding the buttons. works perfect. ;)
e.g.:
bind MOUSE1 "+attack"
bind MOUSE2 "toggleads"
bind MOUSE3 "+frag" // click with the wheel
bind MWHEELDOWN "weapnext"
bind MWHEELUP "weapprev"
bind MOUSE4 "toggleprone"
bind MOUSE5 "+gostand"
may this help others.
