OK, I just finished the beta version of Rudedog's Message Center for Pacific Assault

For those of you who don't know what Message Center is:

Message Center is a server sided mod that allows you to broadcast message to your clients at timed intervals. No second computer needed to run the messages from. Just add the pk3 file to your main folder and add 6 lines (messages) to your cfg file, that's it.

This is a beta version or more of a proof of concept on the Pacific Assault platform.

Right now you can only add six messages, you can not change the time between messages (set to 30 seconds) because I wanted to get this out ASAP. It took me two weeks to do something so simple. I just don't have much free time right now so I wanted to get this out to all the admins who have asked for this.

This is a beta version so please use it with caution, no it will not burn your server down :) .

I hope to add more features to it over the next couple of days ( ok the next week LOL ). Please leave feedback in this thread. More info to come.

One more thing, the only problem I can see right now is the placement of the messages. It will load them in the top center of the screen. Please let you know what you guys/gals think

Thanks Rude got it running on our 2 servers seems to be fine just where it is. The only other place that I could see doing it would be at the bottom but the top seems to be the best place to put them

Yeap the messages are coming to fast other than that it seems fine had 10 on server no one bitched anyway

also seems to be working fine with Mosses Rcon mod as well, they seem to play nice together

The hard part is trying to find time. starting and restarting MOHPA both the server and clients is a PITA.

Found the reason why messages are coming so fast....there is a file included in the pk3 called test.scr that is called. In it you have message times set to 10 seconds. I think you meant to include the text.scr that has times set to 30 seconds.

Overall though a very nice touch.

Sorry about that guys, Will look into that, you can manual edit that file to set the delay to anything you want.

Next version will have that set via a cvar.

I am new to all this but have been asked to ask you what software I need to edit this file..any links would be a great help...and someone was feeling particularly kindly..a bit of a walkthrough...thanks folks..

I used the latest version of WinZIP to extract the files from the pk3 and then used a simple text editor (windows notepad) to edit the files it extracted. Then I updated the files back into the pk3 with WinZIP.

I could provide you with the updated pk3 file if you want to re-package your distro.

download has been updated with just the pk3 file.

just place it in your main dir, add the lines to the cfg and restart the server.
