View Full Version : problem getting server listed...
ok, i've got the required port (TCP/UDP 13203) + gamespy enabled, but for some reason no one is able to connect to my dedicated server unless i give them my IP address... these same people say that they aren't able to see my server listed in-game
so what could be the problem?

Can you tell us a little about your network setup?
-Are you useing a router?
-Are you useing NAT behind a router?
-What is your OS? Are you running SP2? If so make sure you have opened ports in it's own firewall

ok, no problem
yes, i'm using a router (Linksys) and have forwarded the req'd port TCP/UDP 13203 for the MOHPA mp demo; i'm not really sure what "using NAT behind a router" implies however, my external IP address is dynamic and internal IP address is static if that means anything
also, i'm running SP2 under Windows XP Pro but my firewall is disabled
i've also tried resetting my router/modem w/o any luck

NAT means network address translation. Meaning your using a private IP behind your routers public IP.
Make sure you forward all ports to the private IP your computer uses.
TCP AND UDP PORT INFORMATION
Here is a list of all the ports Medal of Honor Pacific Assault(tm)
uses, both TCP and UDP:
80 TCP
6667 TCP
18020 TCP
28910 TCP
29900 TCP
29901 TCP
29920 TCP
13203 UDP
13300 UDP
27900 UDP
29910 UDP
= Only the TCP/IP protocol is supported. IPX does not apply.
= When playing on a LAN, the server only uses UDP port 13203.
= When playing on the internet, the server uses UDP ports 13203,
13300, 27900, 29910 and TCP ports 80, 6667, 18020, 28910,
29900, 29901 & 29920.
= The default port is UPD 13203. If UPD 13203 is already in use
then the game will scan through UDP ports 13204-13218 until it
finds an unclaimed port to use. In situations where multiple
dedicated servers are launched on a single machine, the game
selects the port automatically - it is not necessary to
manually assign the port.
Here is the reasoning behind all these ports:
The game needs port 13203 forwarded to your PC so it can connect to the game itself.
All the other ports are for game spy and it's master server(s), so people can see your server in the game browser and in game spy or ASE ( have not verified ASE yet but should work as I requested this feature a while back)
Now with that said, you have two options.
1) place your PC in your routers DMZ - all ports are forwarded to that computer. This is only recommended for testing. Normally your computer is not safe in the DMZ.
2) open all required ports and forward them to the PC running the game.
On a side note, check your routers firmware and make sure it's updated. Older linksys firmware had problems with MOHx . Do this as a last resort.
let us know how you make out..
wow, thanks for the detailed information!
anyway, i'm am now aware of what the problem is... according to the following set of details you mentioned, When playing on the internet, the server uses UDP ports 13203, 13300, 27900, 29910 and TCP ports 80, 6667, 18020, 28910, 29900, 29901 & 29920.
i had only the one port (13203) forwarded; i didn't realize so many damn ports were req'd to be open for this demo... lol
i've got MOHAA working because i have those particular ports already forwarded but oddly enough, MOHPA seems to need more ports than MOHAA
btw, thanks for the help... it's much appreciated :)
