View Full Version : Connection Drops Randomly

Server:
The PA demo is running on our privately-owned, colocated, Intel-based server. It's on a full T3 - network bandwidth isn't an issue. During the problem described below, the PA game server is the only thing running on the machine. The gametype is Invasion. The number of clients is set to 16. GXF is enabled.

Bug?
Every so often (randomly, but roughly every 15-30 mins or so), the game server freaks-out and hangs for about 10-20 seconds. I can see lots of errors in the console, but can't quite catch what they say...so, I know there's something weird going on with the game server itself. I am running the lagometer to keep an eye on the connection from within my client, and it looks like either the game server's connection to it's clients gets completely dropped, or the game server itself hangs. After 10-20 seconds, it's fine. During this time, the machine and it's network connections are perfectly fine...with the exception of the "little" resource usage problem *ahem*.

Triage:
I have keep an eye on the server itself; checked the logs, etc....there is no sign that it's in any way hardware related. I have kept an eye on my (DSL) connection to the server from my client; everything looks normal...and I have no services running locally that would cause this kind of complete connection drop. Nothing like this happens while running AA, SH or BT on this same machine, so I assume it's the PA demo itself. Could it be caused by memory leak/s? Perhaps combined high latency from low-bandwidth connections?

Anyone else seeing behavior like this, or (dare I ask) is it just me?

(Maybe I should I just stop worrying about problems in the damn demo...because "it's only a demo". I'm seriously considering waiting for the game at this point.)

Yes we too have the same issues, u can be playing then the whole thing lags out for 15 secs or so, and we too have our own dedicated box.

Theres no signs from perfmon that its a resource issue, and ive seen it on other servers as well, so im leaning towards another issue for EA to look at.

Message posted to EA.

Also, they have been checking the forums. While they are real busy and can't reply they are reading them.

I will continue to post new bugs in our official forums.

On a side note, they are making progress.

I didn't mean to be insulting...just a little ribbing. I'm sure we all understand how much work goes into these games, and didn't by any means want to imply that the MOH team is slacking.

Thanks for the update, RudeDog.

Not a problem and I did not mean anything towards you by my comments.

I understand it can be frustrating on this side of the game. All I wanted everyone to know that they are listening.

As long as they don't get personal, I understand where your coming from.

RudeDog: "I will continue to post new bugs in our official forums."

Does the public have access to these official forums? If so, can you post the URL, please?

thx

-Not quite sure how to take those barbs, "buddy"...but I probably deserved it. :D Nice to see the EA QA dept is on the case.

If you haven't seen it, you might want to read D_Town's posting on CPU utilization:
