Hey guys. The site looks great. I look forward to some interesting and informative discussions about Call of Duty. So I guess I'll start it off.
There has been a lot of discussion about anti-cheat in CoD. Some say punkbuster, some are saying an entirely new system. I have never used punkbuster, so I can't comment. However, I do see a lot of hacks for the demo are out now and that concerns me. The cheat community is already hard at work disecting this game and if there isn't something to stop it, it will follow the same course as MOH and we will be back to policing the servers again. What are your thoughts on this. Will you buy the game if there is not an anti-cheat built in?

From the online discussion ( gamespy) IW started they will have something in place to "know someone is cheating". I don't know what that means but I can only hope it works well.

One thing about the Tribes series of games, the ability to cheat was small, and the admin functions were great. I hope that COD has a better selection of admin tools.

AC built in is a new requirement for any game I venture into, thanks to being a MOH server admin. It was a great game.
As for Punkbuster, I hear it does keep the cheaters away. I don't really know for sure, as I don't play much RtCW anymore. I am not sure what other games it has been built into, but when I did play RtCW a lot, the PB servers were the only ones I would join.

Yeah, I don't know anything about PB. If there is a pure setting, I think I will run that until the anti-cheat start up. Apparently there is nothing on the www.evenbalance.com website, however I did see that they have signed a contract with Activision and id software. Maybe IW is in negotiations with them as we speak?

PB is a client-side anti-cheat program that the player must have to join a "PB" server, or the server ejects them shortly after joining after a warning or 2.
server-side anti cheat programs will only catch the low-level cheaters. sophisticated cheaters work around/thru/over programs like counter intelligence, that DMZ scanner thingy, and the other ones out there. they even can get onto a "pure" server. a "pure"server is somewhat of an illusion these days, and people are just missing out on cool blood mods and skins for nothing. No server-side anti cheat program can detect video card hacks (the hackers alter the .dll files used in connection with their cards). So, it's really wide open for cheaters in the MOHAA/SH world. :|
Anyways, I sure hope CoD has some kind of client-side cheat detection ala PB.

Pure will work for a little while until they start sorting out stuff. Isn't DMW a client/server program, much like reverend/missionary?

if it is, I apologize for the error. Perhaps I was thinking of something else.
