Hey guys,

On my Clan's COD server the status will only work for so long which I have seen other people having the same trouble with after too many players are playing. I downloaded and started using autokick in hopes that maybe it would still be able to communicate the status command so that I could get player id's in order to kick people causing trouble, and that didn't work. It suffers from the same problems as the status command does in the console.
The real strange thing is that it only happens on two of our computers. One of our admins can still use the status command. But since he isn't always playing, I'm still having this problem.

My questions are:
1. Is there any alternative to getting player ID's than the status command?

2. Are there other programs that do not suffer from this problem with the status command?

3. When will the bug be fixed? (I'm hoping with a patch)

I'd appreciate answers for any of these questions. Thanks for your time.

/rcon status works like a charm on our server, and we also use CK's Autokick. your problem could be a local one.

this is a windows issue i believe, once the server reaches a certain fill level the command fails to respond. I too have this problem, however serverstatus command still works. The only problem with that command is the client#s are inaccurate :S

It it the Norton FireWall that stops the rcon status and not the game....
Shut of the firewall and it works

It appears the firewall is not the issue. I turned off all firewalls and still couldn't get status to work after a time. Still when I reach around 19 to 20 players, I am unable to use the status command.

Why wouldn't status work but, kick, clientkick, and dumpuser all work?
This is perplexing.
Any ideas what my local problem could be?

I could never repro status not working with over 20 players. The not being able to return a full list because it doesn't fit in one packet has been fixed though.

I can also reproduce this problem with mods installed and without. When players get above 17 the send commands time out for a while. Usually a couple of hours. Doesn't affect the console of course. I'm running the linux server though. This is on a 30 slot public and 10 slot private server.

This is on a dedicated server on one of my group's comps. Not a personal computer, it has nothing to do with Norton firewall.

I wrote DivCon, an rcon tool for CoD. Something I can attest to is the fact that the rcon status failures are due to something on a per-machine basis, and probibly has nothing to do with the game itself. It could however be the server.

Via DivCon, I can get a status 100% of the time, yet other people in the clan hit and miss. We have one guy in the clan who gets status in-game 100% of the time while we all scratch our heads in dismay at the kid wth the filthy mouth and cant kick him. DivCon will give me a status anytme so were lucky, but I'm not on 24-7.

It's NOT a firewall issue, if it was, both in-game and DivCon wouldn't work for me, neither would any of the other commands since they all come down the same road as status does.

Simply put, there's a bug in the server software that needs patching.

I've not seen this problem as well. Have had no problems with AutoKick or ingame Status reports on a 20 player server, other than making sure I've scrolled down to the bottom of the console to read the reports.

You might consider Fragomatic's Rcon Commander. I believe you can find his program in the download section. Although I don't think (?) you can kick by client number (I'll stand corrected), you can type Kick in the command line than swipe the players name, copy players name after Kick in the command line, than click send ... players gone!

Temp solution tell you figure out whats going on in your Status command ....

I have been running a 32-Player Server (216.86.32.201) since the day CoD was released and have not had any problems with RCON whatsoever.........knock on wood, heheh.

I have this problem as well. The STATUS command will not work in game or out after approx 17 players are online. I believe the problem might be a router issue. All of our players without routers have no problem with the STATUS command and a full server, although I need more data. Technically, I have no clue why a router would inhibit a command.

I bypassed my router recently when our server was full and I could see all the players. Reconnected the router and the problem was back.

Hope this helps

We have this problem on our server  . Sometimes it works and other times it does not, it seems to be totally random. Some days some admins can get the status to work and other times nobody can access the status

I dont believe it is random but related to the # of peps on the server. I admin a 22 player server and if the # of players is over 16-17 I cant status through the router. If I bypass the router (which I have done numerous times) and connect directly to the internet, it works like a charm. All of our members without routers have no problem. Since i'm not an expert with Routers/Networks, I can offer no explanation. Any experts out there have an idea?

The problem with the router theory is that other commands work properly, yet status fails. Why would a router block one specfic command and not the others, it's a flawed explanation if you ask me.

Anyways someone mentioned Rcon Commander. I designed DivCon based on Fragomatic's example code as a basis for something much bigger. I get an rcon status anytime, also I get a full user list with client ID's. Bt it would be nice to be able to get it in game so I dont have to minimize.

So... the router explanation doesn't hold water, it's something else, though I do agree that it happens after the server gets more than 15 people.

Corporal, the router doesn't block the STATUS command. The command is sent correctly as are all other commands, the return STATUS packet of information is either not received in the proper amount of time or not received at all. My speculation is that it is a timing issue. All you folks out there with routers, bypass your router and connect directly to see if you can receive status info. I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised :P

That was the point of my post. That the router cant block the status command and yet allow serverinfo and others to work.

I am behind a router and I can use DivCon to get the status, it works 100% of the time for me.... yet never works from within the game itself. That to me eliminates the router as a source of the problem altogether.

Someone mentioned that if it cant fit the status return string in one packet, that it gets lost. This is probibly the way in which the in-game console functions and is therefore a bug in the clients console code.

Without changing machines, without removing the router, or changing any settings... I can get a status using DivCon yet even at the same time with the game windowed, I cant get it to work in-game. So the problem has to basically be the in-game code for the console.

All I can say is that the bloody patch better be out soonish :P

HAve fun guys.

Now that makes sense to me. I was an Admin for a MOHAA server and the same problem existed. Hope a patch works. Thanks for the info Corporal
