View Full Version : Connecting to a LAN server

I typically will start up a dedicated LAN server and then start up CoD multi-player and test out mods, cfgs, etc.
However, multiplayer insists on trying to access the internet. I have to continually click "cancel" in the connection box, even when I have the connect IP in a cfg file executed on the command line in the shortcut. Eventually, it starts the game up and connects me to the LAN.
The command line in the shortcut is : "F:\Call of Duty\CoDMP.exe" +exec LANConnect.cfg
LANConnect.cfg contains the following lines:
connect 127.0.0.1:28960
rconaddress 127.0.0.1
Is there a command line switch or a line in the cfg that I can use to keep CoDMP from doing that?
Thanks,
Floyd

Isn't 127.0.0.1 local host? Are you trying to run two instances on the same machine? Can you open the in-game browser and select LAN there and does it show the LAN game running?

No, it doesn't show up in the ingame browser. That is why I used "connect" in the config file. Even if I run the dedicated server on another machine in the LAN (it will show up on the ingame browser then), I still have to keep "cancel"ing out of the dialup box. I have to manually cancel 3 or 4 times before it finally goes to the server.
Hmm, perhaps there is something in one of the default config files that makes it try to check in with Activision first? Even so, there should be a way around that to connect to a LAN server.

I think it has to do with your modem. Whenever you try to connect it sends the instructions to the modem first (it is the primary device) which attempts to dial. Ah...Windoze....such a wunnerful thing.
Have you tried changing your connection choice in the game? That might help. Under Join Server there is the option to change your connection type. I am sure you have done that.

I was smiling there, Floyd! Well, a workaround is to create a new connection that is lan and set it for default each time you want to do testing on the lan. (I seem to remember this happening to some people with MOH as well....sort of a de ja vu thing.

I'll see if I can do that. I remember it happening in MOH:SH now, too. And I got around it somehow. I may check my configs and shortcuts there to see if I can come up with something. If not. I'll try creating a LAN shortcut (I may need some handholding on that one :? )
