I've been using every version of setting up the rcon password in the demo server config but, when I go to use it in the console all I get is this message "rcon password is not set". I've tried the following in config file.
seta rconPassword MyPassword
set rconPassword Mypassword
rconPassword Mypassword
I've also tried the above variations with the password in quotation marks.
Can anyone tell me why the rcon password isn't being set for me?

You have to set the same password in both the server config and the in the client. You don't say if yoru server config sets the rconPassword.

I'm using one computer as the dedicated server and that's the one I've been trying to set the password in. Then I play on another computer through the lan. On the computer I use to play, I hit the tilde key to bring up the console for typing in the rcon password, that's when I get the rcon password not set message. Do you mean that I have to set the password on the computer I play on too? If so, then where in the client do I place it?

On the server, set it in the config file for the server. For example, if your start the server with:
moh_breakthrough_server.exe +exec lib.cfg
then set the rconpassword inside the lib.cfg file.
On the client, set it in your custom.cfg file in the maintt directory. The game runs an autoexec.cfg which exec's custom.cfg. You can put all your key binds, alias, rconpassword etc. in there. If you don't have a custom.cfg file, you can just make one.

Have you tried going to the SERVER console and typing in,
set rconpassword mypassword
hit enter and the rcon password should be set,you will have to do this every time you start the server.
Works for me everytime.

Setting it manually in the server console only works if you can get to the server console. Not every hosting company provides that access. If you set it in the config file, it just works everytime the sever starts.

I'm having this same problem with a clients server.
RCON shows the password set as default off the server.cfg in the users directory.
However, when you try and use RCON in game, some of the functions don't work others do.
Also, I'm using HLSW to report, and it shows the server pinging extremely high. When I veiw the server in ASE, it pings 24.
Strange things. I've admined a few MOHAA server and never had these kinds of problems.
Server runs ok otherwise.

If a router (or the server itself due to a bad driver or nic) is dropping packets, that can cause that type of intermitent issues. Trying running a series of tracerts to the server and see if you are losing packets.

Unfortunately it is not that straight forward.
The users can admin their servers to a basic extent, just can do certain commands like status for example.
Very weird issue.

Dunno if this is related to this, but the server I assist in running has stopped taking rcon commands. The password is set on the server and the clients, but when you type rcon <command> you get no response no matter what the command is. No errors, no "bad rconpassword", nothing. This holds true for all admins on the server. Any ideas anyone? Not everyone can get console access so it's a big bummer.

Dalamar - that is a bug. Stop and restart the game server and rcon will work again. Annoying, but solvable. It just happens once in a while and is common to all Q3TA based games that I have rcon'd or admined. The server runs fine, but won't respond to rcon commands from anyone. Stopping and then starting the game server program on the server has always fixed it for me.
