need help!!!lol

Hi Im new to all this, I want to host a game with a dedicated server.
The thing is nobody can connect, I can only connect through the internal adresse. I have a router and all the right port are open and fowarded. Ican see it on gamespy and in the game but every time I try to connect i get " Server connection timed out". I thought it was my config files so i downloaded one from a tutorial and it still didint work.
If you have a idea on what causing this, please tell me I think ive tryed everything lol going insane!!!

Is your connection fast enough, (this may sound stupid) do you have a firewall up?

If its not the firewall, trying putting your sever in the DMZ of your router. SOmetimes port forwarding doesn't work as adverised. If you put it in a DMZ, defintiely put on something like ZoneAlarm and inside ZA, add your server exe to the list of authorized Internet servers (and probably remove all other programs that are trying to do that).

Only computers you put in the DMZ are exposed. Whatever protection your router provides will continue to be available to PCs that are behind it and not in the DMZ. The danger is, technically the machine on the DMZ is still on your home network, and therefore could serve as a gateway behind your firewall. Depends a lot on how the individual router is set up to handle stuff. That's why its always best to "harden" anything you put in the DMZ - using a tool like ZoneAlarm.
