I've always use sv_pure 1 on our server and ppl have been kicked out for being unpure. However, tested a couple of custom maps yesterday and later i removed them from the server. Then I started it up again and joined my server. Much to my surprise I discovered that I'd forgotten to remove the pk3's from my machine and I still got to join the server :?

Not much of a cheat protecion I know, but aleast its something :(

Pure isnt very good as cheat protection though. Need PB. End of story.

Same thing happened to me and my server. Thought I was going nuts…

BUT — on thinking this through, it seems that I have read that the CoD implementation of sv_pure blocks clients with "unpure" .pk3's that are "referenced."

Maps are not called/expanded ("referenced"?) by the game until/unless they are needed, unlike crosshairs, scopes, skins and cheats, which are "referenced" and expanded when the multiplayer game starts up.

Consequently, IW may have done us all a favor by eliminating map files from the sv_pure check.

Can anyone shed any further light on this?

I think it was basically said already.

With sv_pure enabled, the server checks the the default pak files that came with the game (or officially released in a patch) to make sure the client and server match.

You can have 300 diferent pak files in your personal desktop as long as the default ones (came with game) were not altered and/or match what the server has.

You would not be using any of those pak files while playing in a server - so it would not become a "cheat" or "cheat" issue.

No - pure does not block all cheats and neither does any anti-cheat protection - including PB. Once PB is updated for found or known hacks - then they become detected, but, there is always someone with too much time on their hands and finds another way in.
