Hi all !

I have a mohaa server that has a lot of server breaks.
When we are playing the server lags for about 30 secs and returns to normal for about 2 or 3 minutes and then again the breaks. This is very anoying and i was wondering if anybody here have an idea what is causing this.

This is a rented Mohaa Server and its connected directly to the backbone of a portuguese internet provider (OniTelecom) and they dont have any ideia what causes this breaks.

The server is running in a AMD Atlhon 3000 XP (Barton) bus 333 512 Cache with 1,5 GB DDR 333 TwinMos and it's running 3 mohaa server , 2 mohsh server , 1 CS server under windows 2000 server .

Heres a copy of my server cfg

seta sv_hostname "O.Legion Fortress [Recruting Girls] CKR = On Powered By GSP"
sets Admin "O.legion"
seta g_motd "Visit www.olegion.cjb.net"
sets URL "www.olegion.cjb.net"
sets Connection "10 Mbit"

net_noipx 1
net_port 27030

seta timelimit "20"
seta fraglimit "0"
seta g_allowjointime "2"
set roundlimit 5
seta flood_waitdelay "15"
seta flood_persecond "4"
seta flood_msgs "4"

set g_gametype 4
set g_teamdamage "0"
set g_inactiveSpectate "60"
set g_inactiveKick "300"

set g_allowvote 0
net_restart
set rconpassword "XXXXXXX"
set sv_pure "0"
set sv_maxclients "10"
set sv_privateClients "0"
set sv_privatepassword "XXXXXX"
seta sv_minping "0"
seta sv_maxping "300"
seta sv_gamespy "1"
seta sv_allowDownload "1"
seta sv_maxRate "9000"
seta sv_fps "20"
seta sv_floodProtect "1"

seta sv_maplist "obj/obj_team1 obj/obj_team2 obj/obj_team4"

map obj/obj_team1

net restart

Do you see anything wrong whit this?

Can anyone help me please ?

My guess would be this is more prevalent in the evenings when there is alot of traffic on the servers?

Your server provider is overloading the box. MOHSH is not only a hog on the cpu, but it has huge spikes in cpu usage, unlike somthing like Battlefield 1942 who is also a cpu hog but is very consistant in cpu usage and therefore players experience less lag even with a higher average cpu utilization. These spikes in cpu usage will directly result in the same spikes in game server performance. Unless MOHSH servers are very small I recommend they are on a dedicated box.

Asked to be moved to a new box or get a new provider.

Most likely. That is a nice beefy machine but I think they're pushing it a little bit too much with all those servers - even if they have modest clientslots

thanks for all the quick answers but i made a mistake in the numbers of servers . they have them instaled but 2 of the mohaa servers are down.

So the server is actualy running 1 mohaa server, 1 mohsh server and 1 CS server

the mohaa server is on port 27030
the mohsh server is on port 27020
the CS server is on port 27010

all of this in the same ip

the servers are running all at the same time

mohaa and SH both have 10 slots and the CS has 16 slots ( not sure about CS ).

beeing all this games in the same IP but in diferent ports could this be the reason why the servers breaks?

What do you think?

No. Thats how its done.
You either have a network problem or a server/game problem.
I would do a series of Tracerts to the server and see if there are any latency issues (pings that are over 100 ms at any hop are bad), they may have a routing problem, bad router, etc.

To test the server you will need to have the host run a performance check of some kind to see whats happening. If they wont, contact one of the other clans running on the same server and see if they have any issues with this server.

Hi again i contacted one of the other clans that is running on this server and their lider told me that he doesnt have any breaks .

Sure he has the ocasional lag when too many users have hi ping but only in this situation.

What can it be then?

Does anyone see anything wrong with my server cfg?

I don't know what else to do.

I'll do a few tracerts and then will try to post them for you to analise.

Thanks again for all your help and quik answers

One thing we specialize in is not overloading a server. Our servers average around 3% idle and we make sure they stay in the 50-60% range for cpu usage at full capacity to avoid the issues you are having.
