Well I am pretty much ready to give up on this tool. I have tried for almost two weeks to get it working. Tried everything I can think of ready lots of forum posts in diffrent forums and still can not make it work. I'm sure it has to do with the fact that it can not see the qconsole file for some reason.. it's there on the server.. I see it logging..but I simply can not get the proggy to see it. I just don't think I should have to put this much time and effort into making something work correctly.
Oh well I tried.

have you gone through my guide yet? if you are trying to get it to work with CoD then you are using the wrong file. You need to be accessing the games_mp.log file in your .../call of duty/main folder.
The consol_mp.log file only logs rcon transmissions. If you are trying to get it to work with MoH then disregard above. Good Luck

Well tell a bit about your server.
Like is it a rental server ?
And if it is a rental...
How do you connect to it to get the logfile
Ftp most commen or SSH ?
If not a rental where it is..... at your lan or what ?
What kind of game server are you setting up... Mohaa / call of duty / SH ?
Show me your target line for starting up the server.
And put in your configfile allso...
just take away passwords and stuff like that !!!
I will bet we can help you get it running.
If it is a setup problem in the SW we will help you with providing a setup that works for you....
I have setups here for Call of duty that i use in my server. and allso setup for my mohaa servers that i use in SW.
Me and Enforcer will help you out.
And i will make a helpfile allso for setting up with call of duty.
Where i show you all how to make Cool stuff with the SW.
If you wonder what kind of cool stuff that is possibel with SW.
Then join my server at this adress and see for your self what you can make with serverwatch in a server.
And all message system i have going in the server is wery easy to make allso......
Ip for my server.

Oh yeah...been through the guide several times.. backwards and forwards.. tried the console_mp.log and the qconsole.log.. both there..

Thats the problem. You don't want to use either one of those. You want to use games_mp.log.

Heres a question that hasn't been asked yet. How do you know its not working? Is there an error message that you are getting? If so what is it?
ShadowBee
11-24-2003, 08:48 PM
Ok. heres another. When you use ftp to access the files for your server what folder do you start in? is the root Call of Duty folder where you see the docs and main folders? if so then try the command line: /main/games_mp.log
make sure you have the "/" at the beginning
also make sure you are using "/" and not "\"
MOMMA

Well depends on what I'm doing.. sometimes it says file can't be found (depending on what path im trying). Path cant be located ..stuff like that..
Sometimes it says FTP session terminated ( this is after several times of trying to find the file I think with no success.. )
I think I have seen some others but cant remember.. like I said it's been about two weeks and I have tried many things.. but mostly it has to do with not being able to find the file.
**EDIT**
Went and tried /main/games_mp.log and got.
[11/24/2003 7:55:31 PM] : TFtpSession - error occured: /Main/games_mp.log: cannot find specified file
I FTP'd in just to check and the file is there and logging.

Have you edited your serverwatch.ini file yet?
*edit* ok. when you ftp'd in. where do you start? in the main folder where games_mp.log file is located?
*edit 2* Give me the exact patch it takes you to see the games_mp.log file when you ftp in if its not there in your root ftp folder. For instance when I ftp into my server i see folders like docs and main. and since games_mp.log file is in the main folder my file path would then be /main/games_mp.log

Yes I edited my ini as per the guide.
THIS (http://www.codadmin.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=678) URL explains what happens when I FTP in.. it was when I was looking for the qconsole but it's for the other files also.
When I finally see the files I am at " / "

thats a bit difficult then. can you contact your server host administrator and have them change your ftp access to at least the /main folder if not the /call of duty folder
MOMMA
11-24-2003, 09:44 PM
Well I don't know. I havn't asked them. I will try and see what they say. There may be some reason they have it setup that way I don't really know.

If im not mistaken...you dont have the set g_logsync "2" cvar set in your .cfg Im pretty sure Cobra or Shadowbee said that was needed. I think that's what makes the log file write instantly instead of buffered.

the issue still resides with the fact of just being able to connect to the log file.
MOMMA
11-24-2003, 10:59 PM
right.. im positive when SW can see the log..everything else can be resolved. I have asked my provider if when I log in using FTP if it could put me in the /main or /call of duty folder.. he said not without using diffrent FTP software.. he is looking into it.. I guess the one he is using creates a /user/effmomma directory.. so that's where I start out.. two directories deep in the main folder.

LOL..that's bad when the sole developer calls his own app a shitty program.
But I understand what your saying.. obviously you put a LOT of time and effort into the app. My issue is not so much with the app but the hurdles I am having to go through to get it to work. Now I got my ISP trying to get diffrent FTP software so I can use it.. not his problem...just mine.. he's not in a real hurry.

Ok my ISP loaded diffrent FTP software and now it dropps me right into the MAIN folder. Or I guess it's the main folder it only says " / " at the top but it has all the files so I'm assuming it is the MAIN folder. Anyway.. still doesnt work. I get
Execute SW FTP startup
ServerWatch FTP startup done
Execute ServerWatch LogSession startup
LogSession Started
TFile Session Started
ServerWatch LogSession Started done
ServerWatch startup executed

Momma, it appears by your earlier posts that you are running your CoD server on a windows computer. I have tried multiple FTP server side software and all of them triy to open and or download the games_map.log file. This won't work as the file is in use by CoD and being written to it. I have given up on trying to get FTP logfile access as it so much harder on windows then it would be on linux.
Try using SSH instead. I posted another post below this one regarding FTP and windows. All I can say is it just won't work. SSH is the only hope for windows CoD servers to work with the logfiles as SSH allows full access to the file like you were remote desktoping the COD server itself. The only other options besides SSH would be to install SW on the game server but that isn't possible if your renting just the CoD server and not the whole box.
If I find anyting to make the SSH installation on the server easier I will post it to my post on this page.

I am now working on testing a lot of diffrent FTP servers for windows.....
I think i have seen one that have worked right for some time ago.
But i will come back to you on this when i have tryed all the ftp servers i have here now.

Ok.. thanks for the info. I don't think I have it in me to ask my ISP to change yet again. I think I am back where I started and just giving up on the app. Hopefully something will come out in the future with some of the features of this one but more user friendly. Until then I will just stick with autokick.
Thanks for all your help anyway.
imported_Enforcer
11-30-2003, 05:21 PM
Well you dont need the logfile to make functions work in ServerWatch like on Autokick.
UserFriendly ? What is userunfriendly ?
MOMMA
12-01-2003, 11:47 AM
Right you do not need the log file, but then many of the functions are disabled. So that being the case, there is not the reason to move over to it that there would be had all the functions been enabled. I realize it will work as a stand alone..but at that point it doesnt really provide me any more (what I concider t be) useful features than autokick so why switch. Understand I'm not hostile towards the program. It looked like a good one which is why I was checking it out. I'm sure under the right conditions it is a very usuful..Unfortunately the conditions of my server/provider (running windows server) do not allow for me to take advantage of the application to it's fullest at the moment. Maybe in a later release or something.

I am very interested in getting SW running on our COD server, but I am concerned about the same thing. Has the issue with color-coded names been corrected?
Let me paste my file path here, and tell me if it will even be possible. We are hosted on a linux server.

You should be just fine. You noted that you are being hosted by a linux server. Are they running a SSH server on there you can use instead of FTP access. If so connect to your games_mp.log file through SSH instead of FTP as some people have trouble with FTP access. But all in all your filepath looks fine. :!:

Theres no access to that file on my windows based server so I give up.I didn't try for weeks but I had the admin at the server company I rent from trying to access that file via ftp and he says he hasn't been able to figure it out yet while server is running. So upon release of this software you should make in Bold letters Serverwatch for Linux based servers.(may work with windows). If there is any update that may fix this problem please post it but for now I give up unwillingly .Looks like an awesome tool .

But it is some trouble with the ftp servers for win.
But just install SSH on the windows computer and it will work just perfect.......
