View Full Version : Warning. Ilan has gotten REALLY BAD...!!

I run several MOH servers and have been a faithful customer of Ilan for over a year. I have seen their service go from inspirational to downright embarrassing. It's slowly been spiraling downward for the past couple of Months with no sign of rebound and only getting worse.

In general they are following a recipe for disaster and a real headache to deal with .. Here are some key points

1)They are very disorganized. From billing to what server is what.
2)They are VERY understaffed. Yet they are trying to grow but keeping the same or actually less technical support.
3)They have done away with a way to contact them. There is no longer a way to call them direct on the phone. There are no emails they seem to respond to. They started a "live" chat which is a total joke, no one is ever online and good luck knowing when they are IF they are ever are.
4)They have gone from bad to worse on trouble tickets. It used to take a MIN. of ONE day to get a problem (and there are OFTEN problems) fixed. My recent of many problems.. my rcon is non functional and going on 4 days without them having even looked at it. Here is the ticket status as of this day Thursday.. The claim of 24/7 tech support on the webpage is outright not true.

Ticket is now 4 Days Old and counting!!!

Rcon is down for both our servers 66.150.209.172 66.150.209.202 Rcon is non responsive.. I tried rebooting through iguana but rcon still will not work..

5)They NO longer have forums! They have some silly blurp that there was some paypal fraud so they don't have forums any more.. HUH??? That claim was half a year ago! They still don't have forums and looks like never will.

6)They are taking on additional things outside their focus (website hosting) and other installations geographically when they can't even handle their existing customer base. Iv seen this from DOZENS of ISPs in my areas that would do this ... They are all now bankrupt. Taking on additional customers with no increase in technical staff when they are already overburdened.. NOT GOOD...

7)Frequent Hardware and network problems and overburdened machines. We have over 45 members in our clan and all agree no matter where they are in the country, the Ilan servers (dallas in particular) are choppy and seem overburdened. As soon as you get a couple of players on more then 8 things get really choppy.. and this is not seen on other hosts..

8)This is not an off the cuff complaint and nothing new for us.. here is a report card of just MAJOR problems we have had.. for things where downtime was incurred since the beginning of this year.

On a positive note, they do have some nice people there and thier rate of 5$ a slot is offordable.. But you get what (or less) then what you pay for.

Xgameservers is also $5 a slot and i have yet to wait more than a day to get problems fixed, and this was a routing problem,so i expected as long.
They have a great forum that is usually answered withing a few hours.
ICQ support is slow, but e-mail support is pretty fast.
They also have a toggle mode where you can go from Spearhead to MOHAA on the same server.
FTP access where you can upload files, members area where you can stop and start your server.
Free webspace and e-mail accounts,so on and so on.
They have yet to dissapoint me on their support and i would highly reccomend them.
Also they have servers based on all coasts.

i do have to agree, rcon is down just about twice a month. it seems that i have to call them on the phone to get them to reset machine to get rcon to work again. ive have a server with them since november of last year and they do get more laggy in the past few months.

I can vouch for CyberSeals.
I've had nothing but excellent service from them.

Um ... well ... I went to Cyberseals, entered some of the Houston servers hosted by you and found my pings were around +80, (I live in Dallas). I get better pings from servers in Chicago. That said, I did find consistancy, no latentcy and no lag on two of the 4 Moh servers I visited. The other two servers had players pinging at 250 plus which lagged the servers so I really won't include those two servers in my evaluation.

No Flames toward you Cyber, but as I live and learn, the grass is not alway's greener on the other side of the fence. I'll check back from time to time. But this should not stop anyone from checking you out ... who knows?

Mostly it's a shame about Ilan ... hey Ilan YOU LISTENING? We're pretty dissapointed fellas.

Ilan is MIA as far as I know of...

Hmm, lets check back right now and see if they even have thier forums back up after 8 months of being down.. ..

"Due to some attempted fraudulent paypal activity on our forums we are temporarily disabling them untill we can look into the matter further."

Nope, same excuse.. You think Im going to trust someone that can't fix thier own forums in 8 months time to maintain a Game server?

I started my server with ILAN a year ago. In the beginning I was a big supporter of them. Their support was always a little slow, but the quality of the server and the price made up for it.
Now a year later here is the condition of the server over the last month.
Twice rcon has been down for a week at a time. Request to reboot the server goes completely ignored. The server was also down for 3 days, they finally got it back up today.
So out of 30 day, 14 days rcon was down, 3 days the server was down.
We paid for 30 days and got 13 days use out of it.
Needless to say this is the last month we will be at ILAN.

Guys these complaints are common place. Although Ilan seems to be the worst, I have seen similar complaints about most of the server companys out there. The ones that do offer good support are just too much cash!

Frontline Combat Servers is different

FCS is a new server hosting company that promises to offer the best servers at competitive prices all with the most comprehensive customer service in the industry. You have spoken and FCS has listened. Not only are good prices and fast servers in demand, but also responsive and accurate customer service is a must.

We used to be customers of ilan, so we know how frustrating it is to submit a ticket on Friday and not receive a response until Tuesday. This will NOT happen with our service. We are 100% customer service driven. We will work diligently to resolve any issues you encounter in a prompt manner. We work around the clock to keep you in the game. Great prices, low pings, and outstanding service is what sets us apart. We are avid gamers who decided to provide a better service than other companies who don't give a damn about their customers. Give us a try, you won't be disappointed.

I was at ILAN for 3 months took them forever to answer tickets and that sucks when your server is filled with landsharkers and hacks and you dont have any RCON access for 3 days.......sitting there checking my email every hour going "hmmmmm....I wonder if they decided to have customer service today". I went over to VSK and almost the same thing so i dropped them too. Now, I went to Sierra Kilo Servers and they have been awesome! I had my first server up within 2 hours of ordering it and they responded to all my emails within hours, so far they have been great! I am now running a ALLIED ASSAULT, SPEARHEAD and BREAKTHROUGH demo server on Sierra Kilo Servers. I can also START STOP and REBOOT my server from the web! I dont want to sound like im plugging them too much but they really have been great!

Yes this is capitalism and free market at it's finest.. being that so many Game host companies were formed out of frustration with companies like Ilan.

Don't get me wrong.. they are very personable at Ilan.. but Im not paying for a personality.. They are just wayyyy to overbooked and understaffed to deal with the business IMO.. Game hosting is NOT for the casual entrepreneur as far as commitment.. Things go wrong CONSTANTLY when you are a hosting company and you have to be set up to deal with them.. Ilan may be the largest? -- but that is a BAD thing ... when I saw they were trumpetiing expanding into Canada I rolled my eyes.. (er ok lets spread ourselves even thinner and give less support)..

Ilan is however cheap.. that much I'll say.. at 5$ a slot for MOHAA they are at the lower end of the pricing..

On the other end of the spectrum you have companies like Xgammingserver that has fanatical support.. and on top of everything hour by hour.. (the way it SHOULD BE)

http://x-tremegaming.net

We have 7 different ways to get a hold of us including Ventrilo and Teamspeak voice support.

We all have been through terrible hosters before including most of the staff at x-tremegaming thats why we make it a point to get problems fixed usually within minutes rather then hours or days.

Give us a try. You won't be sorry. We haven't lost one customer yet..

Um ... well ... I went to Cyberseals, entered some of the Houston servers hosted by you and found my pings were around +80, (I live in Dallas).

Spice, I live in Virginia and I ping in the 50's to our servers in Texas. My main gaming connection is over a Comcast Business Cable account that runs about 2MB down and 1MB up, most of the time. We have many clients in Texas, most of whom love us because they ping in the 20-40 range on our boxes. I think your ping issue may be with your ISP...
