HI there I have a question about hosting a server.
I have a AMD 1800 XP 1024 DDR 333 and about 10 mb Connection with no traffic at all. But when there are about 20 people on the server playing MOHAA the ping will rise up and only few more people and the server starts to lagg.
I was told that the Mohaa uses the Quake engine and the one who told me said that he needed to put in how much memory the server was going to use for Quake and thought that the same thing would count for mohaa because he is made from the same graphic engine. He said that this config would come in default and that would only be a small amount of memory that we have on our server. Is this possible or is he totally wrong ?
I really hope he is right that would properly fix our server problems, Any way if anyone of you can help me I would be grateful !!!
Ps we have the Maxrate in 8000.....
Regards

I suppose it is a dedicated one..... U have Mohaa patched to the latest version? If not, u must update it to version 1.11. I donīt know if u have physical access to the machine, or only remote... Letīs suppose it is local!

There are only two things that can lag a server (considering all configs are correct):

1) Upload speed.

2) CPU load.

First check with your ISP your correct UPLOAD speed. U can determine if it is enough by calculating the total with number of clients. There is a guide on this forum that can help.

Second, open the Task Manager, and open the performance TAB. See your current CPU load. The more clients connect, the more CPU load u will achieve.

I recommend u use REMOTE TASK MANAGER. It does the same as the standard, but much more improved with network performance graph. U can also monitor a remote machine with this software. U can also monitor the number of clients connecting and their ping with HLSW Game server tool. Here is the link:

http://www.hlsw.org/index.php?url=hlsw_download

Donīt forget to set an Rcon password in order to monitor clients.

The link for remote task manager:

http://www.protect-me.com/rtm/

Basically, with these tips, u can monitor your machine locally or remotely, in real time for clients/network load/cpu load ratio and see what is your problem.

I have a post concerning some of these problems in more detail in the forum here:

Good luck!
