UN-Autothrized RCON Access

There is a particular dude that goes on SH servers and accesses server control thru RCON. We have set a RCON password and changes it often. I even saw him KICK players without a RCON password set.

Could someone help me with stopping this guy. He is a nuisance. I have Autokick, and banned him. But you can still do his devious things thru RCON.

Have not heard of such a hack. Looking for the simple answers first -- I suggest you change your ftp password, and then your rcon password to something new and not easy to guess. And oh yeah, don't even share it with your significant other. See if that solves the problem.

this can't be done without him having the password. if he has FTP access, or access to view the .cfg files, then he could obviously see the rcon password there and use that. next time you see him on the server, change the rcon password via:

rcon rconpassword bleh

if he doesn't stop.... well then, maybe it is something much more serious. this doesn't write to the server config file, so if he's checking it thru that, he won't be able to check it thru FTP or some other access to read the config files.

and don't bash these forums, it's a problem that's more than likely due to a password leak somewhere, it's not a hack or cheat the guy is using, that's not so much a spearhead question as it is a general hacking question, or just letting the password get into the wrong hands, so don't put down the ppl in this forum that make it so great, much help have i got from reading these forums.

Are you using a rented server?......if so, how well do you know the admins?

No offense, buddy, but you only waited 1.5 hours before bashing the forums. I know I haven't been here in a long time, but I think it's still safe for me to point out that your impatience is the problem with this forum, not the peoples' willingness to help you out.

On a seperate note, I might point out that I've seen this issue happen a few times myself. Can't be explained, really, so I don't bother with it. It is safe to say, however, that EA made SH even more "hackable" than AA was originally and there are people out there with enough time to sit there trying to figure out every last way they can to be jagoffs. If banning them isn't enough, then I don't know what to tell you. You're outta luck - maybe get a new IP and see you lose him that way. :?
