I did a quick search and did not find anyting straight away regarding banning of players.

Anyway, I tried a few of the rcon commands that were given to me to use. For my testing, I used some of the banned IP addys from our DoD server to test things out and even a player in game and could not seem to have any success.

/rcon banip <ip> [time]

- only seemed to reflect the ip addy back to the screen

/rcon banid <global id> [time]

- could not figure out what the global id number is or where to find it. I did see the player numer under /rcon status

/rcon <ban> [time]

-not sure what this is suppose to do

As far as the some of the others on the list like /rcon listbans, /rcon listidbans, /rcon listipbans, /rcon removeban <ban>, or /rcon removebanip <ip> I have not had any success in seeing any kind of a list.

Sorry to be confused,

As of right now there is nothing worth using in CoD itself. You can ban someone's name but that is all.

You may want to try one of the add on admin tools for now.

Yeah, this is gonna become a problem real fast. Unless the patch or an add-on tool deals with it somehow based on a generated GUID within the game or some other player-specific ID, the jerks and nutjobs will be ruining the game. Our server was full of them the other night. Kicking never works and banning is impossible right now. We will start passwording our server for our regular community members only, thus denying free access to honest and decent acting players that we normally invite warmly into all of our servers (we currently have 3).

We have just a few simple rules on our servers and telling our Admins to stfu or change our rules, etc is not among them. Being rude to us or other players or generally displaying your improper upbringing is cause for you to be booted. You don't have to like it in order to comply. You do have to comply in order to stay. It works on our other servers as our many guests will tell you. They always enjoy the fun atmosphere. We need that ability with COD also.

I hear ya Flint. I am one of the admins on MikeMarauders and Boogieland. Mikes is unpassworded and Boogies has a password.

We are mixed on the benifits of passwords, but you are right, it keeps the great unwashed out.

We definately need to be able to ban.

Before Steam messed up our DoD server, we had some entertaining plugins.

One was uberslap. It would slap the player all across the map. And the other was flame, which would set the player on fire. The combination of the two was priceless.

Those were great tools to get players attention - those who did not think you had admin powers.

Forgot to ask,

Is there a way to use a wild card key when entering a players name. So instead of having to type the 20 charactors that some choose to use in their name, one just needs a few parts of the name.

ex:

.=====SuperNubnuts====.

one could type %super and that would take care of them.

Don't even mess with the ingame ban method, least till the patch comes out and they hopefully fix it. It's just to easy for players to just change their name. Try a client side server admin tool like Crow Kings Auto Kick or Server Watch.

Both programs I am pretty sure are working with CoD now and both can ban by Full IP, Partial IP such as subnet banning, and by name... We currently have SW running with no problems right now and it uses very little resources so u could run it on your gaming rig.

The funny thing is we really haven't had to ban anyone from our server yet :) hehe but as I type this the ban list will start to grow.

use their client number. by using the "status" command

/rcon status

will return a list of clients and their ID numbers.

Do you have a link for Server Watch?

Yes, but doesn't that just return a basic slot # (as opposed to a real GUID type #)? It may make it easier to kick/ban the player if he has an inconvenient name to type, but doesn't prevent him from changing it and returning to wreak havoc, correct? Maybe I'm wrong on this and it returns a player-specific ID #, but I didn't think so.

That's the problem right now CoD only supports banning a clients name not the client himself/herself

Yes AutoKick does enforce banned IPS. :!: It checks every so long for the banned IP so thats quite nice. I use it regularly just because of jerks that have wandered their way onto my server. You can restrict certain names w/ it, kick high pingers, things like that.

I like it alot other than the fact that since, CoD has no alt+tab functionality, it takes awhile to get in and out of game to kick and ban.

FYI, alt+enter gets windowed mode. Once that is done ctr+esc lets you move out of the window to use your desktop.

do you have a link to the web site? I'm sure other server admins would love this tool.

Send any info to me at jim@landi.net

Just to add to this.. if your windows resolution and your game resolution are the same (example 1024x768). even in windowed mode the game still operates full screen.. then, playing in windowed "full screen" mode you can still alt-tab out until your heart is content. No addiitonal loading of graphics. At least this has been my experience.
