we are trying to control th max ping that clients can connect with to our server. we have the following lines set with these variables in config_mp.cfg
seta cl_maxPing "200"
seta sv_maxPing "0" ive even tried changing this 0 to a 1 but still nothing
This dosn't seem to be working, people are still connecting with 200+ pings
am i missing something?

The problem is that players, when connecting, have changing connection speeds. Some spike above 200 others may drop very low. Once they are inside the server thier pings may climb. Currently your best bet is to install a scanner which will monitor and kick players with pings above 200.
That's right the max-ping is used to challenge a client when it's connecting, not monitoring afterwards.
Look for a tool that will kick when ping's spike during the game

seta sv_maxPing "0"
Just put the ping in there ... "0" signifies no max... I would think 1 would lock anyone from joining, but it sounds like that didn't happen? Weird. Just set that 0 to 200... works for me!

The sv_maxping has to have a value to work "400" or what ever you want to set it to. Setting it at "0" is default.
It does only monitor at the connecting or "awaiting game state" screen.
It's pretty much useless in any event and usually causes more harm then good.
A scanner is probably your best bet.
