I want to run custom maps but don't have a large enough player base to expect that they all have them loaded locally. Is there a way to force them to be downloaded to the client when they attach to my server?
Thanks

No. As nice as it sounds, you would not want a feature like that running on your game server. The game server has enough trouble keeping up with the client and the game much less having to be a ftp server too.

Hi there Alpha:
I am having the same problem. I also run a dedicated server and there are tons great custom maps out there but when they are ran on the server player drop off for lack of having the map. I have been finding out that some are just plain lazy other have lack of knowledge on how to get them, installed them etc. and other just affraid of messing up their game. So I have been thinking on how to resolve this so they can get the maps from server, since most maps are under 3 meg in size.
I think it can be done!!! If all of those anti-cheat programs out there for MOHaa and Spearhead can send messages to the game, there should be a way to configure an FTP program that would puch a map back to client with a nice message DOWNLOADING MAP!!!. Now all we need is one of those gurus that create it those programs and give them the idea and let them configure into; lest say MOHAA CI, or one of the others out there that performs the same type of anti-cheat scanning. 8)

i agree there has to be a way.... unfortunatly im not one of those gurus :?
here where some of my ideas for gurus that are hopefully reading this
--Is there any way to have a redirect so when someone tries to connect to the server they are brought to a page that says "Sorry u need these maps to continue" followed by a connect to server button??
--Is there anyway a script can be made that informs these idiots when trying to connect to a custom server that they dont have the correct maps instead of just booting them to game lobby?
---Is there a way to substitute the server ip in game server browsers with one to your clans map download site?? before letting them in?

Howdy,
A program called Crow Kings AUTOKICK 1.2 is great for sending repeated text messages announcing map rotations and where to download them. There is an announcement section that allows sequential messages to be texted across gamplay. Simply set up stock maps at the front of the rotation, so all can enter. Then flash the other map names coming up, with the web addresses to download them. After I was booted from a server I was enjoying for the tenth time, I remembered the WEB info, went to the site, downloaded the great maps, and then went back to that server running them. Doing it this way won't build an immediate following, but over time you will see more ane more folks coming back.
Plus the autokick program, is great for taming teamkillers, impersonators, bad word users, and other general pains in the hiney.
Only bad thing about autokick, you need to run it on another machine other than the host server, or a machine playing in that server. Reason: It tanks the CPU when it runs a scan. It uses almost 100% of CPU. You will see lag out the yin yang if you run it on the host machine, or on your node if playing.
Frags to all....JohnnyRotten
