View Full Version : 100% cpu when server changes map

As the topic says ..
Is there any way / setting to prevent this?
I´m running 2 servers on 1 p4 2,6ghz, but when 1 of my servers is restarting or changing map, it uses 100% cpu and the other one lags.
Could this be prevented in any way?

Hazarding a guess here.
You could conceivably prioritize the processes running on your machine (assuming it's Windows 2000/XP)
Go to Task Manger and find the CoDMP.EXE file. Right click on it and then change the priority.
That won't fix it entirely but it will allow one of your servers to always get priority on CPU utilization at the cost of the other.
Only other option would be to slam more RAM into the system so it can hold more I suppose or load it faster.

I think that'd just make it worse for whichever server has the lower priority. But like sphinx said, it's probably a problem with not having enough RAM. You may also be having I/O issues with your disk.
It'd be nice to have more information regarding the type of system such as RAM (amount and type), disk storage (size and type), etc... Is this a server-class system or is it a workstation of some sort?

I seriously doubt this can be entirely prevented but the negative impact can only be reduced since you're dealing with a finite amount of resources.
-RAMs a good bet.
-Can you put another processor in the machine? I am skeptical that would even help though unless Windows can automatically load balance across the processors. Can it? I don't recall right now
-Faster hard drives or even a RAID set would help in map load times too. But that's only if you want to spend some money to improve your server.
Of course your easiest way to fix this would be to either get another machine or only run one server at a time.

It can and does.
