I was wondering if anyone has any information in the CPU usage on Spearhead, is EA going to fix this major issue?
I apologize if this was answered already, I searched and coulnd't find anything decent on this.
thanks

Sorry to say there is nothing new on this from EA. The only solution at this time is to run minimal Spearhead servers on one box and watch some of the maps because there are certain ones (like brest and stadt) that seem to spike the server utilization really bad.
I have just bitten the bullet and am in the process of getting a dedicated server from my hosting company so I will have my own server to run on. This is unfortunate and also expensive but currently is the only good solution to the issue. I have monitored a server and can tell you that the processor usilization will go from 40 to 95% and when the server spikes that high you will get severe ping spikes for all players. The high utilization will happen at random moments and have no regard for mods, or any custom pk3s.

I am actually going to save money by getting my own dedicated server. I think it works out that i will be saving about $75 compared to renting from dedicated game host. I really think this is the better option. As my server is only running my game as opposed to how game server companies multihome there systems with 5-7 instances of Spearhead servers running.

5 - 7 instances??? Man, that would stink! I admined a dual processor (Xeon with Hyperthreading so it looked like four processors) and it ran four 20 client servers - max. Killing a server (say, running only two of them) made no difference since the "virtual CPU" that was not used by a game server basically was wasted (no usage). Each game made full use of its CPU cycles, and 20 seats (each server) was pretty much the max before the lag monster came in. I suspect they will have to redo a ton of code to reduce CPU demand, so like Uncle Bill they will require users to fix their performance problems by throwing more hardware at it.
5-7 game servers on one box would positvely suck swamp water unless it was a really huge multiporcessor box!
