Okay I am running a COD server for my clan.and quite a few of the guys in the clan have Dial-up.What I am wondering is what is the optimal setting for the maxrate setting for the game so I can let the guys on Dial up have a better expierence with the game.
I have a T-1 line at my house that I run mt CoD server on.but my friends on dial-up have a hard time with connection problems.
any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated.
I also look through the forums here and I might have missed the thread on the subject. So if any one can point me to the thread if there is one would be greatly appreciated also.

thx in advance for the help.

I would say the optimal max_rate setting is 20000

set sv_maxrate 20000

The dial up users shouldn't have any problems with that since their actual max rate won't even come close.

There isn't a special setup for dial up users, I would advise them to choose their connection in the Multiplayer Options section.

oaky thx Bipolar.I have it set to 5000 right now.do you think that that is to low? I will try the 20000 setting and see what happens.

Thx.

Yes 5000 is way too low. We had our CoD server set at 10000 and I was pinging 100ms from a 2Mb line. I upped it to 20000 and it's a steady 40-50ms now.

Catering for those with higher speed connections also means catering for those on dial up.

Set it to 20000 :!:

So these tables should be added to the congig_mp.cfg ?
should they delete any lines from teh config or can they just add them to the end of the config.

thx in advance for the help and thx for the tables list they will help

yes - they are to be added to the config_mp.cfg and then adjusted for optimal performance. You can also copy the config_mp.cfg to your desktop and rename john.cfg. Then cut all info from it, put it into MS Word (it will line everything up nice) and make your adjustments, then copy from word back into "john.cfg". then add john.cfg to your main folder. Now, you can do one of two things, either add this line to your shortcut -exec john.cfg or exec it while in game [console] /exec john.cfg and it will use that configuration file.

See- your connection to and from the server has a pre-determined flow (depends on the ISP you are using). (throughput=rate) If you have your FPS (frames per second) high, then the data being processed is high. The more "frames per second" you are trying to send to the server, the higher your connection speed must be.

Although your video care may be capable of much more then this, your connection will not allow it, or, become choked by it.

Try these settings and I am sure your dial up experience will dramatically improve. You will not have the same cable/DSL experience, but, it will be much better.

Anytime I can help someone out - I will. The guys here at CODAdmin.com are always helpfull.

I relied on their help with MOHAdmin.com in the past with a couple of very tricky issues.

The nice thing about this site - there is always someone that knows how to fix a problem or lend a hand to point you in the correct direction.
