Hey I dont understand this how do i get my ping levels for other players to go down. if there are 3 people in my server the average ping is 44 if you add one more user everyones pings fly up and everyone is kicked for high ping. What should i do?
Here is the system that i am using

AMD 1.7 Ghz prossesor
GeForce4 Video Card (not MX)
7800rpm Hard Drive
1.3 megabit internet connection

well i think that is everything that needs to be known. Is it something that i am setting wrong or what. Any help will be appriciated.

Falcon-- this is the age old problem with running servers from the home internet connection.
First go here and read the Guide on maxrate: http://www.mohadmin.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=18
Now you need to test your actual UPLOAD speed and then reconfigure your maxrate settings and number of players for what your actual upload speed can handle.
What happens is that your internet connection gets too much data flowing and the packets start to drop which then compounds and on and on....next thing everyone freezes in the game.

Hey Snype i just wanted to thank you, you have helped in several of my problems, And am greatly appriciated. You have been a big help, just so everyone knows here is what i did. I have a max upload speed of 150 kps so i used the formula on the link that you suggested. 150/(8*8)= this equals how much bandwidth to designate to every player.
the 150 is my upload speed the first 8 is how many clients i want and the second 8 is for 8 bits, to my knowlage this has to stay at 8. This then equals 2343 this is how much bandwidth I designate to every player.
Thanks Again

Glad to help, you might want to check that upload speed every now and then and use a good average, you would be suprised at how much it can fluctuate. Also, running below 5000 usually creates a very choppy game. You might just test it at various settings. Usually 5 or 6 players is about all I can get on my cable at home.

I don't think you'll be able to get to many more then 4 on your server wihtout ping problems.I ran a server from my house for 5 months and my U/L is 700 kb/s. I ran a 8 man server and it ran pretty good, but 150 kb/s isn't very much. I had an AMD 1900xp with 1 gig ddr pc2700 mem. The extra mem did help out from my old server. Also do you use cable? Cable is not as steady as dsl is and will cause more ping flux. Look in your area for dsl company that offers bi-directional dsl, I had cable with about 1.5 d/l and 150 u/l and switched to dsl thats 768 up and down.my speed tests are always around 680 to 700 up/down. works alot better for gaming and you can run a decent server from that.but i get that for $40, dont go spending extra money each month for a better connection to run a server from.Thats what game hosting sites are for, heh.
