View Full Version : New cheat found. Need to counter!

There is a new pk3 out there that allows people who force Scientist and Pilot skins to be able to see them through walls. This does not remove the wall texture, just give you the ability to see where they are by color.
I'm told that it is undetectable with dumpuser.
Does anyone have a way of counteracting this? And if so, please post it so we can implement it!

Nothing new under the sun... I guess it's just the "always seen" skins renamed, but don't worry, just grab a copy of DogTag and disable the use of forcemodels server-side. This should stop 99% of people using them (there are ways to bypass this, however, but only hardcore cheaters use them).

I was unaware that there was a way to disable force models server side... how do you do this? And the only reason we don't use map fixes are because they aren't addressed in the league rules we play in, so we don't want to be forced to forfeit for non default server settings...

Then probably you cant use dogtag either, since it's a plain mod (.pk3) running on the server.
Anyway, you may want to check the guide to DogTag setup I just posted here ;)

we use the dog tag anti force mod and we play in the Clan base league.
and we state this in the rules for the match, then the other clan can agree or not... but know one has not wanted it on.

So all they have to do is duplicate these skins across all the standard ones and then disable forced skins. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY! :(
Anyone actually seen these skins, or better yet, any screenshots!?!! I've only heard about it from folks that have heard about it themselves, but never seen them! :?:

Yes, they exist
YoChoyLaMuete you wouldn't happen to know where a screen shot can be obtained of the skin in use do you? I'm trying to through together a web page listing versious cheats (screen shots only) so our server admins will know what's out there. As I don't frequent any of the hacker sites (or know any of them off hand) I'm just gather screenies from different forums.
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about any screen shots of this particular skin in use, but there was a thread in this forum that shows some of the other skin cheats. Here's the link:

When you do manage to compile shots of the skin hacks, it might be a good idea to talk to rudedog and have him post it somewhere. After all, knowledge is power. :)

Okay, I'm a believer! 8O Thanks Shockwave, it's a real eye-opener. Interesting, the skins are different than the ones in ThePlagueofDeath's post, is there more than one version out there? :( :( :?:
Hey D, we need to get these skins and put them up on our servers so we can tell when they're being used. :x :x :? If anyone knows how to get a hold of them, please email me hammer@mohaacrew.com (don't post it here AND PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME FOR ASKING, just trying to keep our servers clean from this crap!) Thanks.

Hammer, I'm working on it.
Yeah there are deff more then one.But from the two pics it looks like Shockwave has the older ones that stay the same color no matter what side of the wall you are on.The ones that Plague shows will be a diff color when your on the right side of the wall as the the skin. Both these have been out for a while and i am sure there are diff versions of each now.I don't think to many people have them. I just use Delator and DMZ DogTagz and just play.Hopefully one of them stops it.

The problem is that these aren't custom skins as far as the game is concerned. They are the same skin names as default. Until sv_pure is allowed to be used in MOH:AA, we won't be able to negate this. My problem is that even if I KNOW someone is using this cheat. I have NO WAY of proving it. It's just unfortunate that people can't play the game and be good at the game the way it is...
There is one way, but you must have the same skin that they made.Which if it was never released to the open public it's impossible.I have tried to keep every cheat skin I have come across for this reason and have caught people using these skins just cause it was in my main also.SV_Pure, I can only laugh when I hear that until I actually see it. Damn E.A., I think we only really wanted one thing and that was it.

Sorry, but can't say if someone is using a custom skin just by having it installed.
Of course you can force models too with the same skin you guess someone is using, and then spectate him. But even in that case you can't be 100% sure his using them. You may see he does some strange things, but then again he could be just using a 4 speaker setup (which is my case), that allows you to locate players a lot easier (and I don't think I'm a cheater at all).
That's why I say disabling force models is the safest way to go, even if it won't stop 100% of the cheaters out there.
Just my 2 cents.
Regards,
YoChoy.
If I had these Cameolen skins that change color if someone is in front of or behind a wall in my main then put them on without forcing skins I can tell if someone else is using the same skin.I have tested this theory with others and it has worked everytime. It has nothing to do with spectating them I just saw them as the skin they are actually using. How is this wrong? If you don't have that skin on I would just see you as a normal player skin. This goes back to the same thing that Winters Forge said in a thread before. http://mohadmin.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=56&sid=d532a38a968468f5d711012e8214fb88.
As long as the skins I am using to catch people don't just change the textures of original skins it works great and the skins I have in my main don't just change the textures, they do alot more then that. That's antother thing to , DMZ Dogtags nor Delator can help you at all if people just change the textures of original skins, you don't need to force skins or change the name. YoChoyLaMuete, I would like some more feedback on what you think about this, Thanks

In the scenario you're describing, you would be able to see if he's using a cheatskin (with a non-default name), I agree. But the real cheat is selecting it for the opposite team, and you cant say if he's doing so just by having them installed (though I agree most cheaters are dumb and have cheatskins selected on both teams and just force them both). But the real problem is when he has a cheatskin selected only for the opposite team, while he's wearing a standard one. Then you have three options:
- Dumpuser (or Delator ;)): works when the skin is not renamed to a standard one.
- Spectating them. I found it too imprecise. I know many good (and loyal) players become suspects for no reason when you use it. Too arbitrary.
- DogTag: Since it disables forced models, it's my preferred way (and of course the one I use). I know there are no less than two ways to bypass it (which of course I'm not going to describe, but still it beats the competition on my opinion (and that includes Delator 1.0 :( )
If you need further explanations (my english sometimes is not too good :D ), don't hesitate too ask here,

YoChoy

Hey guys, all I can say is wow...those skins are down right scary. I never could understand why people cheated...I mean, what does someone expect to get out of it. If you make something so easy, in this case a game, then it rather quickly loses it's appeal. Then again, that's just my opinion, to each his own I guess.
At any rate, the purpose of my response is to:
1) Request someone send me a link to download a copy of those skins or simply email them to me (dcfa-anex@sympatico.ca). Don't flame me for asking as I simply want them to verify suspected players. Actually, there's an entire clan I'm investigating...boy did my eyes open wide when I saw those pics...the abilities those skins appear to do give you explain everything I saw in a match we had a while ago. I'd love to turn forced models off and catch them red handed. So if someone could send me the necessary information, would be much appreciated,
2) Maybe we should setup some kind of server admin group. I know that's the intent of MOHADMIN, so maybe we should have a separate secure login for server admins and only server admins. We'd outline the requirements to receive that privilidge (i.e. prove you have a server, have never been suspended from a league, run a truly fair and honest clan, etc.). Maybe even charge a suscription fee too...that should help lower the risk of a cheating clan or person from coming in...most people don't like to spend money on shit they don't need to. Basically, we need some place where we can all share administrative information without every tom, dick, and harry and his mother being able to read it.
Anyway, if someone could send me the necessary information in obtaining the skins, would be much appreciated.
