Does anyone know how long we're gonna have to wait for the Linux version?

Our provider runs Linux/Windows servers, but I'd MUCH rather have it on Linux, since it runs so much better.

Er.. I Was reading somewhere (don't ask me where, think it was on planetmohaa.com) that the developer in charge will not start to work on the linux port, before Comdex is over.

I got no Idea if this Message really came from someone of the Dev. Team. So more 'bout a rumour. Also I don't really know who much time it would take then.

I saw Chris Shelton was posting here... Maybe he knows! Chris do you?

I heard from Ryan Gordon, the Linux developer in charge of creating the Linux version of SpearHead, that he won't be able to get to it until after Comdex. He maintains a mailing list for Linux server admins and he posted this information there not too long ago.

We'll just have to wait and see. :)

How can I get on that list?

I just inherited a sun ULTRA SPARC 5. I also have a DEC alpha 266mhz and a SGI Indy 266mhz. Is it possible to run a Spearhead dedicated server on any of these boxes. They are just collecting dust and I would like to use them if possible. Any thgoughts ?

The MOH:AA Linux mailing list to which I am referring is hosted by this site:

http://www.icculus.org/

The message archive can be accessed using this link:

http://icculus.org/cgi-bin/ezmlm/ezmlm-cgi?23

If you want to subscribe, I believe all you have to do is send a blank email to the list: mohaa-subscribe @ icculus.org.

As far as a Sparc version of MOH:AA, here's what Ryan said about that:

Even if I had access to a Sparc to build on, there's some inline ASM to remove, and a dependence on the RDTSC opcode. These could be worked around, but I would need:

1) Permission from EA to do Sparc binaries
2) A Sparc to compile and test on...in-house.
3) Money from someone to do the work. :)

If you've a SPARC, throw OPENBSD on it. You'll then be able to run the MOHAA servers with the Linux binaries. After that, it'll just be a matter of time before Spearhead is ported to Linux.

I've got an Ultra 10 and a Netra running OPENBSD and hell.. I like it so much better than Solaris.

Unfortunately, that won't work. There are processor specific commands used in the binaries that are Intel specific.

ouch... for real? that's a downer now. so much for my plans to throw mohaa onto my ultra 10 running openbsd.
