My server was crashed today and it wasn't a spawn crash. The map actually shrank then everyone was gone, but the server never really went down. There is a pic posted on AA.com http://www.alliedassault.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=148077&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
I have been told that this can be done remotely and I have been told that if you see someone keep reconecting it could be them. I didn't have the spawn patch on then, but do now. Could this be the same thing or diff. I could use any help in solving this problem. I already hear alot of people wanting to quit playing due to all the cheating, if people start crashing server then most will quit playing. I know I won't continue paying for a server that keeps getting crashed. We have two servers and the other one has been crashed two times in the past 3 days and I have talked to other admins with the same problems. One was running the server from his house and screwed up his pc.
thanks

I just posted a new patch by Crowking and Druid. It is recommended that you upgrade to this one.

You can find more info on the main page here at MOHadmin.com

This whole problem is getting funny in a way.
Even the people on the cheat forum are complaining about people
going around and crashing server. The cheaters are also complaining about this new problem of shrinking the map.
They are getting scared admins will shut their servers down for good.
Then the cheaters won't have any place to cheat.

They should be scared. Truth is, IMO, this glitch could be the end of MOH if not corrected. I mean, I love my server and the people I play with, but I'm not going to spend money on it if I can't play five minutes without some 12 y/o idiot crashing the server. And I'm sure I'm not the only one with that phylosophy.

I think this brings us back to BallBuster's idea of pooling IP's. Maybe dynamic IP's will still get through, but the majority of these idiots won't, right?

I like the idea of pooling IP's and already do so with a few admins. Couldn't we go by the subnet though instead of just the IP? Wouldn't that take care of dynamic IP's.I do not know alot about how dynamic IP's change, but from what i have seen with mine only the last 3 numbers change. I have banned people in the past by a 0 or * for the last three numbers and seems to work, I could be wrong. Can someone correct mo on this?

Most ISPs do issue IP from the class c subnet ( last 3 numbers) but some also change via the class B the last 6 numbers. The only problem with this is you could be effecting the good players. Unless there is a way for them to contact you, threw a web site or email addy. you would never know if your denying access to someone who should not be.

Based on location and how you must have a sub 100 ping I don't think this is a big problem.

Good Luck

The idea of poolong IP's is a good one at first glance.
In reality there are several probles with it.

A few examples of why.
1) I run a fairly popular 20 player server.
After four months I have a list of 65 banned players.
Most were just idiot's who couldn't just have fun playing the game. They would rather cause problems. A third or less where cheaters.
I passed on some info about a cheater using a wallhack to several other admins. ( After I caught him wallhacking, I added him to my buddy list and went to ever server he played on to let the admin know to watch him )One of them sent back a copy of their ban file to add to mine.
Their server had been up less then 3 months and he had over 400 ip's in his ban list. I have a hard time believing they all deserved to be banned.

2) I go to other clan servers all the time trying to set up matches between my clan and theirs. There have been several times, I've been accused of cheating and got kicked/banned after I ran the map on thier server. I'm not even all that good of a player compared to several in my clan or others I've played with.

There use to be a joke on aa.com, about people hoping they would be good enough one day that someone would accusse them of cheating.
The joke won't be near as funny if your IP gets put on a banned list just because you owned some admin on his server.

Very well said Druid ( spell that right ;) )
Unless you are very familiar with the other admins and who they ban. How do you know for sure. I can see this working on a smaller level with trusted servers.

This is one of the reasons I came up with the reverse of this logic. If we start a list of recommended servers, then hopefully more of the "honest" players will hang around these trusted servers, not allowing the "idiots" to join because all the slots are full with the players you want on your server.

My server, the AA.com game server only has 64 IP address banned, and most of them, probably learned there lesson by now and would play nice if let back into my server. ( note my server has been up for over 7 months.

Don't get me wrong, I know sharing banned IPs would be a good thing as long as you know who your sharing with.

Sorry to rant just my 2 cents :)

Yeah, that is a very good point. I guess I don't ban people as much as others and very few of the bans are for obvious cheaters, most are just kids that didn't want to play fair or follow server rules, which my server rules wouldn't be the same as others. I was thinking more of just sharing IP's of those we know were cheating for sure. But I have been kicked from servers myself, cause people thought i was cheating, but they were just a bunch of n00bs and I play too much. If I remember right these servers were just run from houses and were not servers that I would even try to find again. This would have to be admins that we really know and trust there judgement first of all.I allow and see alot of people on my server that were banned from a similar server as mine(snipers only). That doesn't mean I will ban them, but I do keep an extra eye on them until I see something.I would never expect another admin to ban someone from what I have seen or say, who knows maybe I just didn't like that guy and want to screw him, this is obviously not fair. But I do appreciate other admins letting me know who they suspect so I can keep an eye out for that name and IP. Thats about all we could do. No matter what some are going to slip through, my server gets about 300 players a day, I play with maybe 30 of them.Cheaters will slip by when admins are not there, but that isn't that big of a deal as this crashing servers thing and thats what I really want to try and put an end too. If any admin sneds me a banned IP I would need to know all the info about why they were banned and if it would really help out by banning them myself.Unsure what else we can do, except sit back and hope these problems quit in 9 days when Spearhead comes out. I don't think that will happen though. We'll see
