One thing you can do is just keep banning them. Another thing is open you banned ip list, and find the ip that was banned, copy it, then paste it onto a new line, take out the last part of the ip and replave it with a *. other than that i can treally help you muich more.

They cant just change their IP because that IP is usually assigned by their ISP. When you sign up for an account you usually get one IP, additional ones cost extra.
Now if they happen to work for a big company and have access to their IP pool, then you may have trouble banning by IP (but this is HIGHLY unlikly).

by doing that you are esentially banning 255 addresses from your server, most ISP's are large enough now that that they have multiple class c networks, class b networks or they have also started supernetting. Which mean the offender need only reboot his router(DSL or Cable) or reconnect with his modem and he has a new ip most likely not in that samw subnet either.... I would think the practice of banning entire subnets would not be a good idea in the long run....

Well on my server, its not really that much of a bad idea. We run a sniper only server. no other weapons except for the 1 nade. Therefore we only get a fraction of the comunity that plays MOHAA

In that case your probably okay... But for most I wouldn't....

So is that where all the snipers are, hanging out on your server?

Not completely true... a dialup user's ip changes every time they dialup! And alot of cable providers dynamically assign IP's to their customers. Some change the customer's IP every couple weeks, some even reassign an IP every time the service is activated (like when you restart your computer). So a user's IP can change for many legitimate reasons. IP's can also be spoofed various ways, but that seems like it would be a lot of trouble to go thru just to harass an MOH server. Plain and simple, if they change their name and IP (by whatever means) it's very hard to keep them out or even know it's them.

Banning the range isn't always a fix either. Like breakaway said, you lock alot of legitimate players out when you ban a range. I've actually had a bad experience with a player that was on a cable service out of CA that had extremely varied ranges, but he finally got bored and went away...

Cable providers usually keep there users within one or two subnets. This really only causes a problem if you have more then one player from within the same subnet. still a big pain in the butt.

For a dial up user. it's much easier for them to change IP. For a cable or DSL provider there leases are usually a week or more and are not as easily renewed via the ipconfig settings. It still can be done.

If you do have more then one player from the same subnet. You could always get the other guys to pay the one causing the problem a visit :D ok maybe a bad idea but I have thought of it several times.

It's not just the cable modems that change IP's my DSL line changes all the freakin time, even though I have a router up and a server that is in constant use. I think mine usually changes at least once a week, and I know that my ISP has at least three partial class B subnet's, and a few class C subnets. All I have to do is power off then back on my router and I'm running with a new IP.

I know it seems like a lot of work just to harass an MOH server but it's a lot less work writing some of the skin/wall hacks and people are constantly doing that.

Ideally the best solution is adopt CD-Key banning like SOF II did, if anyone from 2015 is listening, hint hint. Still not absolutely perfect but it's a lot better....
