After downloading Bull's guide:
1. Do everyone a favor and make sure your connection is fast enough there is nothing worse than getting onto a well configured server only to find out it's lagging all the time.....
2. A dedicated server makes all the difference unless you have a REALLY fast box

:D can some one tell me how to have my messeages repeat on my sever like this other severs i play in for example a message will appear and it might say
**welcome to our clan sever blah blah ping and maps and so on blah blah**
and that will pop up ounce and a wile giveing info about the map rotation an sever info. that is a great feature and i would like that option to be on my sever so what is the rcon to do that or how do i add that to my own .cfg sever file that i made??

The server box doesnt really need anything special, just the standard game specs :
MINIMUM CONFIGURATION
Windows XP, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows 98, or Windows 95
(Windows NT is not supported)
450 MHz Intel Pentium II or 500 MHz AMD Athlon processor
128 MB RAM
8x CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive
1.2 GB free hard disk space plus space for saved games (additional
space required for Windows swap-file and DirectX 8.0 installation)
16 MB OpenGL capable video card using an NVIDIA GeForce3, NVIDIA
GeForce2, NVIDIA GeForce 256, NVIDIA Riva TNT2, NVIDIA Riva TNT,
ATI Radeon, ATI Rage 128 Pro, ATI Rage 128, PowerVR3 Kyro II, or
PowerVR Kyro chipset with OpenGL and DirectX 8.0 compatible driver
DirectX 8.0 compatible sound card
Keyboard
Mouse
RECOMMENDED
700 MHz or faster Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor
32 MB or greater supported OpenGL capable video card with OpenGL
and DirectX 8.0 compatible driver
I run a server on a Dell Dimension XPS T500 mhz, 384 mb ram, 16 mb video. You cant PLAY the game on that machine because of the vid card but as a server its fine. The real necessity is BANDWIDTH!!!! You gotta have a fast connection, the game server will run on the minimum spec machine just fine.
Normal cable/dsl connections will only support about 6 players, T1 will host 16-20.

Just to reiterate what I think SNYPE is saying...
The minimum requirements are fine IF it is a dedicated box...
If you plan to play on that box and host a game, it had better be a HELL of a lot more power

Yea thanks Breakaway, I happen to have numerous boxes around so when I see DEDICATED Im usually thinking REAL DEDICATED. lol. I rarely play on the same machine, only when testing something.
MonkeyVonNana: I would test that 600k connection. Unfortunately the game server needs UPLOAD speed not the download speed that the ISPs usually use to rate their systems. Go here and test : http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/fut.html
Check several times throut the day and see what your getting for Upload. Then heres the formula to determine how many players your connection will handle: #players x Max_Rate x 8 = Upload speed.
Set the Max_Rate in your server.cfg.
8000-9000 MaxRate gives the best quality.
6000-7000 MaxRate starts getting choppy movement
< 6000 MaxRate, well it beats 56k!
Now you have some choices, you can change your MaxRate to accomodate more players (and suffer from game quality), or set MaxRate higher (better quality) and have a couple more players. I have played with MaxRates as low as 3000 but, 7-8000 seems to be the best for running without quality issues.
