We are finding this problem more and now more of the clan have Rcon password.

When an unknown number are logged not everyone can get a status.
This obviously only happens when you need to kick someone.
We have informed all members to not place the rcon password into All Seeing Eye as we think that takes up a spot.

Any ideas why only a certain unknown number os users can get rcon status at one time??

Thx

I am trying to look some stuff up but I don't think "having your rcon password in ASE" should have any effect on rcon. It only adds or uses the password when it connects to the server when you initiate a rcon window. By just being connected, your not keeping a window open. Now once you initiate an rcon command that might keep rcon port to your box.

I am trying to locate the old quake sdk doc I use to have. I fond an old vulnerability ( that has been fixed ) but lost the link. Will post when I find the info again.

I could be wrong, but I don't think setting the rcon password in ASE has anything to do with your in-game login. The password is used so you can rcon WITHIN ASE, using their rcon feature. I have tried this before, and I still had to enter the password once I joined the server. Verify this for me someone.

This is interesting, I have rcon password in my ase, and it seems the only time that I can not get status from console while im in game is when there is like 16+ clients in the server,so if i need to kick someone I have to drop out of game and kick a player from my all seeing eye, but when there is only like 10 players in the server I can get status just fine from console..weird.

There are only 3 people with RCON access for my server, I still have problems with it at times. Sometimes it will work fine, other times it may tale several tries before RCON commands will work.

I'm glad to see someone finally took the idea of an Admin website and ran with it.

In my clan we are 15 ppl and it seems like the rcon "status" command only works when "mr status" feels like it.

I can pull down the console, type rcon status and nothing comes up. I try it again and again and again.....suddenly it works. The next time I'm on the server I do the same thing again, only this time it works the first time.

Sometimes it works sometimes it does not.

Ex. Map the hunt - rcon status not working - changeingmap - V2 - rcon working

rcon status seems to have a mind of its own. I wonder if EA knows about it. I am behind a firewall, and I found that there are 3 ports that rcon commands attempt to communicate through. I've opened these three ports and haven't had a problem yet... but as I said, it won't work if it doesn't want to... =(

I have searched many times to see if anyone has come up with an answer to this problem, but it seems that no one really cares. For me, it works about 80% of the time on the first try. The other times, it works on the second try...so it's not a real big dilemma. There could be many explanations, such as there was another request from the console to the server at the same time, and it took priority over your "rcon status" request. But I guess the point is...who really cares?. 8)

Might be helpful to know which version of MOHAA your running. I believe some issues with RCON where fixed in the v1.11 patch. So if your still running v1.1 that may be the cause.

Yes some issues were fixed, but this problem is with the 1.11 patch. I'm assuming that everyone is running 1.11.

The remote console is a stateless connection, so having a password in the profile, or even having an "rcon" window open in some external program (like ASE or Autokick) won't take up a connection. Technically, you don't have to even be logged into the server as a player to send rcon commands to it.

The reason you don't get results from rcon appears to be a matter of load balancing on the server. When the server comes under load, the rcon commands are sometimes ignored (or maybe even dropped - not sure). I've seen this alot and it seems almost like there is some type of hierarchy on the server for what commands it will respond to and what ones it won't. For example, on my own server, it seems like the getStatus command (which is an unchallenged form of status that doesn't require a password) starts getting ignored before the regular status command, but when the load gets real heavy, even status is "iffy". Hope that helps.

It is a problem that we have in our servers allso.
But we are now down to 60 people fore eatch dual Computer.
And it works fine.
If we put in moore clients, it starts with the problem of not giving status.
I gues that is has something to do with the cpu.
That is the only thing i can gues on.

All,

We at Kronos1 have 4 servers. We have one that is a Barry's World server and we have 3 others from other ISP's. Now why is he telling us this I hear you cry, is he just showing off?

Well I am telling you this as I think there is something worth noting here and it is a s follows.

When we are using our NO BW servers we never ever have an rcon issue. When we are our BW server rcon is flakey to say the least and there is one subtle difference in these servers and it is as follows.

1.) Barry's World have multiple instances of MOH dedicated server running from one game installation. All the do is run another instance of the game on the same box and charge you per month for that. This means that they install the4 game once and run say 10 dedicated servers from that installation on that very same box.

Now, our other server have their own box and are 32 player servers. We never have a problem wioth RCON on these servers. It dosen't matter how many players are on the server at all. It just never is a problem.

With regard to the ASE stuff, it makes no difference weather you have your rcon password in ASE or not as it only transmitts the password when you use the RCON function in ASE. Even if you go into a game with the rcon password in ASE you will still have to type in the rcon passwrod in game as the game does not have this info only ASE does and the ASE/MOH integration just isn't that good or tight.

Hope this helps.
