newbie questions

Right here goes, I want to set up a cod server on an old PC I've been given, is there a min spec for a cod server, will P2 500, 512ram be up to the job? It won't be a public server, just me and a few mates.
If PC is no go can I set it up on my own PC which has cod installed and still be able to play?
I've downloaded the pdf on setting up server and it looks straight forward, I just need someone to tell me that my kit is up to the job.

Well, it will probably run, but I'd limit the slots to 2 or 3 players max. It will be a bit slow, and laggy... The min recommended is 800MHz, and 128MB (although the latter is BS).

You can set the server up on your on PC and still run the game yourself. You just start in multi-player, then use "Start a New Server". The console will come up and you can minimize it. Then, start MP again, and connect to your own server (you should see it under "Local"). This is hairy, though, unless you have a really fast PC, and you keep the slots to a minimum, but, it can be done.

More on this...not sure if the game installer checks for resources. Some games will tell you "no way" if it detects less than the required minimum. So, give your 500MHz a shot and see what happens. Again, it will be slow and clunky.
