Hi...

i am quite confused about setting rcon password and doing rcons ...

i rented a server at a gameserver provider...

i installed the game... i edited the server.cfg and put in:

set rconPassword "test123"

then i started the server, connected, opened the console and typed:

rcon test123 exec server.cfg

he put this command as a chat... lol

so i went here and discoverd the "/"

so i did:

/rcon test123 exec server.cfg

then the server sais: no rconpassword set for this server

but i have set one in the server.cfg?!

what must i do to get a working rcon pass for rented server?

you have to tell the server you have the rcon password

when in your game bring down the console and type

/rconpassword test123

then hit enter
this will allow you to use the rcon on the server...if the server thinks you dont have access to the rcon then it wont let you do anything admin type.

by typing that your telling the server "hey i have the pass to be an admin"

enjoy being an admin it is fun and a P.I.T.A.

being that it is your server you are admin'g you can do this as well.

/seta rconpassword <yourpassword>

This will write the command to your config_mp.cfg in your main folder.

So for the future you will only have to type /rcon <command> it will save you a wee bit of time.

Also, you can take a look in this thread for making rcon use a little more easier. http://www.codadmin.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=245

1st make sure you did not name your cfg file "server" this is not valid.

you should connect to the game as normal. Once your in your game server (as a client) . You then pull down the console and type

/rconpassword your_rcon_password

then you can start rcon

/rcon status

If your not connected to your server you can use

/rconaddress your_servers_IP_address

Then
/rconpassword your_rcon_password

mmh??

server.cfg is not valid??

what else can i take?

dedicated.cfg

or

config_mp.cfg

???

it still do not work...

i have:

set rconpassword "test123"

in my config

i restart the server

i connect to server as a client

i open the console and type:

/rconpassword test123

then i try:

/rcon status

i get: no rconpassword set on this server

damn

btw: i also tried with a local server at my machine... and there is the same problem, because i thought its a probleme by the gameserverprovider

My tip is to enclose your password as set in your config file within quotes.

In the config use this to set your password.

set rconPassword "test123"

One thing you may be doing wrong is trying to exec your config file after actually "upping" the server. You should do this from the command line on the server.

"C:\Games\Call Of Duty\CodMP.exe" +set dedicated 2 +exec myconfig.cfg +map_rotate

What you need to find out is how your server gets started; ask your game provider this: does it +exec server.cfg at startup? If not, then putting set rconpassword in server.cfg will do nothing! They must add that to the startup command-line (you probably won't be able to do this).

In your line set rconPassword "rconpassword" try changing it to set rconpassword "rconpassword" :!:

So you're server is starting config_mp.cfg, yet you have a file called server.cfg ... do you see the problem yet? Make sure you start the appropriate config file AND that it is under the server's main folder.

Oh, and I assume the "rconpassword" you list in your config was edited, right?

well, i have set +exec server.cfg in the shortcut...

anyway he never wanted the rconpassword...

no i tried another config... coz rudedog said server.cfg is not valid...

and it worked... fine ... THX guys!!! thx so much! :D :D

no i just have to tell my gameserverprovider that he should change the cmdline so that the server starts not server.cfg... then everything is fine. :D hopefully

but why isnt that valid? i mean... q3engine... i thought u can run any cfg as long .cfg at the end?

You can't use server.cfg as a config file because it matches the name of a file included in one of the pk3 files. Since that is the case, the one in the pk3 file is always run and not the one you are editing.
