g_banIPs - doesn't work?

Hi.
How to ban players via IP? (excluding Punkbuster)

i tryed to set the banned ips in g_banips.

but it didn't worked - If I entered my own IP and restarted the server - I was able to connect.

I tryed:
set g_banIPs "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, xxx.xxx.xxx"
and:
set g_banIPs "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"

Where is my mistake? ;|

AFAIK you can only ban by GUID. And the player needs to be connected to get that.
