I have two PCs, both with built-in 10/100 NICs. My wife's PC is has a 3Com 905B PCI NIC. On either of my PCs, I am unable to see the list of Internet servers when I click Refresh. It gives me the "getting info on 547 servers" message and then the refresh time, but when the refresh completes I'm staring at a blank screen where all of those server names should be. My wife's PC lists the servers just fine.

So I disabled the onboard NICs on my two PCs and installed a couple of 3COM PCI NICs that I had lying around (I am fortunate to work in a place where such parts are readily available :)

Now I can Refresh and see the Internet servers just fine. And it's not just me having this problem. A co-worker approached me this morning saying he couldn't get the Internet server list to show up. I casually asked him if his mobo had an onboad NIC and he confirmed that yes, he was using his mobo's onboard NIC. I told him to disable it and drop in a PCI NIC tonight and let me know what happens. I have a feeling he'll find his results much more satisfactory.

Just to note, I've upgraded and downgraded the drivers for the onboard NICs on my two boxes trying to solve this problem to no avail. I don't know what the deal is but I'd like to hear from any others out there who might be having the same issue.

Hope this band-aid may help someone.

First I've heard of this. You have a firewall and/or router? What kind of motherboard?

One mobo is an Asus P4PE. The onboard NIC is a Broadcom 4401 Fast Ethernet controller.

The other mobo is a mini-ITX Intel board with the Intel 82845GE chipset and the NIC is a RealTek RTL8100B.

My co-worker's mobo is an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe with a 3COM 3C940 controller.

I am using a Linksys router, however I've tried forwarding ports 20500-28961 TCP and UDP (just to be sure), and when that failed I tried setting both of my boxes as DMZ hosts. No luck at all until I started using the PCI NICs.

I wonder if this is true? I have an onboard nic and have had the same issues. My other PC doesn't and no problems at all. But I am behind a router too and opened all the necessary ports.

I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe MOBO and a Linksys router, and I have had no problems whatsoever with seeing servers. I am running the latest drivers for both of them.

Not that my old Linksys router was necessarily *bad* mind you, but I had a hunch and followed up on it.

See my earlier post in this forum with the subject "CL_ParsePacketEntites" and other CL_Parse." for details.

I have no problems now with parse packet errors or using my onboard NICs to browse the server list. :)
