Wondering how many of you guys have a box that needs the cod uo server set up?

Sorry, don't understand. Are you asking for those that are about to set up UO and don't know how? Or, someone with a spare box and/or bandwidth? Can you explain further?

Since coming to these forums, I have helped 4 people get their UO Server on a linux machine. Linux is not that hard but a simple chap would go crazy trying to set this up for the first time. Just an extention of a helping hand.

Gotcha...I can empathize...I've done similar helping on firewall issues (and recently, how to install UO on a Win2K3 server). Out of self-defense, I created a firewall document that RudeDog was kind enough to post in the "Guides" section. Perhaps you could do that? RudeDog will usually post an announcement, first, on the front page, if you PM him with it.

Working on an install package where all you have to do is unzip and chmod the linux binaries and start and stop script. I love the 64 bit destro! It totally rocks and the performance on the game is amazing.

I am trying to setup a UO server and am not quite sure of the dedicated.cfg file that the server needs to run the UO maps, can someone help me? Thanks in advance for any help.

H@ze, I think the best thing that would help people would be a clear walk through of where the files go. It was not really clear as to where the game.mp.uo.i386.so went. I had not messd with the regular CoD dedicated and was trying to do the install from scratch.

From what I had gatherd from the install instructions I had that .so where the dedi.exe was and not in the /home/.callofduty/uo dir.

LOL, maybe after messing with the SoF2 stuff for too long I have blinders on.

I only spent a day messing with it and only found this forum AFTER wards..LOL

Rocclan forums? ........................??
If it is...sup. Send me your login info and I will correct, start her up for you and then leave you a .txt file in your uo folder explaining to you what you did wrong vs what I corrected. The instructions come pretty self explanatory so there is no reason for me to re-write what COD Gods have created.

What are your server specs? Would UO still run fine on a single chip AMD64?

It will run, but the genious' are trying to figure out the major resource hog the UO server produces with only a few people. I run dual amd 248's with 4 gig of ram. Gentoio 64.

Ok.. I see that you are trying to help... But you also have other things in mind.. I have read most of your post and its all a selling plan. My servers dont have lag and so on and so on.... Dude if you want to help thats fine... But people dont want to came here and read these forums for an ad in every one of your post! If you want to AD on this site Im sure the owner wouldnt mind you paying him!

And your servers do have the some lag and spikes that every other server that is configed right has.. So dont think your hardware is all that.. Its a bug in the game and every server will
get it! Thats why GM is Fixing the problem!

As you should know, dual cpus do not help CoD or UO server out, unless your running multi servers on one box and telling each game server what thread to use. The game doesnt support multi thread :!:

I have helped 9 people get their servers up, while I have joined joining these forums. And selling is my first goal. Your right about this. But I will always enter a person machine and fix any issue they are having with their machines.

If we run a normal 12 cod servers per machine and I notice that one cod uo server is taking 3 times the amount of machine resources, well then we cut the amount of servers on a box, by 66% to reduce any lag issues. So now we have 4 uo servers on a machine.

I would like for you to reproduce a screen shot of a lag spike from my servers. Go ahead and post it here.

My customers are completely happy, unlike you. Sorry buddie but I have done my research before I started renting the uo servers.

Have a great day!

I dont rent game servers, I colo them and a few of my server have been ranked number 1 in the world. I would not rent server from rip offs like you... I buy the hardware and have them racked(in one of the best datacenters in the LA area. Since it is a hobby and not a business deal. I have a REAL job working for the gov.

So lets not try to get into a pissing contest. If your servers are so great and cust are so happy YOU should be paying for an AD and not spaming it.

What are you talking about. I do not rent servers for resale. I make them myself.

My real job...I own "Jayco Construction Services Inc." I am on Vacation atm.

And if I am such a rip off, why Has www.alienware.com contracted me to host gaming servers for their private customers?

Seems to me your a bit jealous cause maybe you have a forum filled with unhappy people.

And I have more class thean to sit here and bash you, so as always , Have a great day!

Well then I stand corrected. But your wrong there, my people are very happy with our servers.(but like I said I dont do it to make money I do it for a hobby) But Im not happy as an admin. You shouldnt have to rack a server that cost as much as a used car to run a larg server. I guess we are stuck with our 36 user server untill this problem is fixed!

Enough on this, lets get back to the problem. Fix the high CPU usage or CoD:UO will soon die!

Just to let you know...AMD's have two way traffic to 8 way traffic. So if you start a game and it hits cpu one, it is not bound to this cpu. AMD's arer not Intel where you can hyperthrea them and make virtual CPU's. This does not exist. But if you place the dual amd's on a tyan s2880 thunder, the mb itself is capable of two way traffic. Meaning, if cpu1 is free, the process will jump to cpu one instaed of waiting for the cpu it started on to be free. This little additive has nothing to do with the game but with the MB and os I have running.

You can read more here if you like.

Well, if you read most of the post that I am in, I normally will help an admin set one up. Just make me a user and copy all the files you have to that user. Then msn me or email me the info. I will set it up for you but you as root have to forward the ports. Have a good night.

Well looks like either you have a path error or you don't have the entire pk3 loaded in your installtion directory. :(
