you dont want too ever change the fps from 20

that is what the game is set too run on --i know some will say they run it diff-and some will crash when it is changed

as far as the maxrate --------that depends on the amount of players you have set?????

Maxrate to 20 people should be as follows:

2500 for all 56 k dudes
8 - 12000 for all dsl connectors
12-15000 for all cable connectors.

I run 32 players on 15 - 20000. Not too worried about phone people connecting to my servers.

These actually work.

FPs should not change more than 20. Maybe sometimes if I want a little itty bit more smoothness, I goto 25. But this will jack up your ping a bit.

My server runs 24 slots

It is all up to you I guess. I personally would run it at 15000 max rate to give the clan members who can handle it, more bandwidth!
This will make the game a bit smoother. But 12000 should be fine for this game.

Your choice.

look at like this way for maxrate

24---25000===600000 bytes

24---15000===360000 bytes

24---12000===288000 bytes

24---8000====192000 bytes

now you need too find out how much bandwith you can maintain on a constant rate

and then decide what you set it at

How to determine and set maxrate has been covered a bunch of times, and there is a writeup in the Guides section, here: http://www.codadmin.com/nuke/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=6.

What exactly is sv_padpackets and how much of an affect does it have on the network? (I guess the answer to the first part will probably cover the second part..LOL)

If anyone has exel installed and needs max rate info, check out
http://www.mohadmin.com/maxrate/

This was a very quick project I was working on. Hope to have a final version without the need for exel installed locally.

Hope this help determining max rate.

RudeDog,

That's a great tool. I'll include a pointer in the "firewall" doc in Guides. Let me know (or us, collectively) when you get the no-Excel version done, and I'll include that as well.

Thanks, olddog.

I was going for a non-exel tool but like the past 5-6 months, real life (work) has been taking up most of my time.

Will let you know when/if I get the other version up.

Yes, still working.

what are you using for your upload speed?

Oops misread your reply. you need to place your upload speed in the grey box. This will calculate your maxrate for you.

for some reason it's not allowing me to put in anything.. let me ask you this..

based on pcpitstop.com and dslreports.com my upload speed is about 20000Kbs.. i'd like to run 4 servers with 25 players.. is this possible just based on the upload speed
