how do I ban?

Hey guys. I cant figure out how to ban anyone, it never seems to work.

I have this line in my config file:
set g_banIPs ""

These are the RCON commands I use:
/rcon ban (then the ip#)
/rcon banclient (then the ip#)

I have been testing it with my brother, sometimes it says he's band, but he is still able to play in the server. Other times it does nothing.

Am I doing this right? Has anyone been able to ban someone yet?

id check the download section here at codadmin and grab autokick. you can ban with autokick much easier than fussing with console etc.
