Does the Network card matter in the server?

Just setup a server on a 10mbit line, 1Ghz athlon (works pretty well though)

anyway, i spluged on the NIC and bought a 3Com card, (forget the model) does it really make that much of a difference in a server? VS say the realtek based cards?

Look at it this way.
Does it matter what type of tires your car has?
Do you plan on going 5 mph or 500 mph ?
You get what you pay for.

Agreed, and pretty sad considering the guy who founded 3Com *invented* Ethernet!
