Don't know if this would be considered news, funny, or just sad.

The other thing i'd say, the more you can show beyond school that demonstrates your desire to make games and your abilities, the better. So if you can do something in your spare time (as part of a mod, your own project etc.) then that always helps - shows initiative, a lot about your work ethic and your desire to make games.

Don't think it is news. Just a developer telling someone the one of the ways to get into the industry.

They also posted this before the reply you mention:

I completely recommend it, having done jobs just to get paid, doing what you love is a must (no matter what it is). And there are are a lot of ways to get into the industry too, i've known people who have done the school route, people who have done the mod route, people who have started in QA just to get their foots in the door.

I think most people know that creating mods etc does you no harm in trying to get into the industry.

Understood. I just find it a but hypocritical to be a member of the development team that was one of the first FPS games to remove modding, then suggest it as a good way to get your foot int he door.

I'm not saying the decision was his...not at all. However, it is a lot like the Department of Fish and Wildlife holding a fishing contest...after placing a ban on fishing.

Like I said...I just find it funny, or sad, that the developer is suggesting modding while creating games that don't allow modding.

I see what you mean, but Respawn haven't created any games yet, so time will tell if they plan on releasing tools.
