dedicated server problem.

I have a colocated server wich i would like to run a server on. i currently run a rtcw server on the machine. I have read in forums how to set up the cod server but every time i try and run it i get an error *couldn't load default_mp.cfg. make sure COD is run from the correct folder*. Then i tried starting a server on my local machine and i get the same thing. I even tried it on a friends computer. I know the in rtcw the default.cfg is a blank config and i tried that but no luck. i used the dedicated cfg given by someone from activision. does anyone have any idea what my problem is? cause it seems im the only person that is having the problem.

Are you trying to run the server (that is co-located) like you would on a home PC? Or is this set up like a service?

make sure you didnt insall cod into root of C:

Also make sure the cfg file is in the main dir.

give us some details of your installation and shortcut your run codmp.exe from

The only time I've seen that error is when I first downloaded the Linux binary and just ran it without first copying the pak's in.

My guess would be that it can't find the pak files for whatever reason. Like rudedog said, don't install into the root of C:, there's a doc on Activision's support site for CoD about not doing that.

the server is my machine that i took to a datacenter for bandwidth. i access the server via vnc viewer, a remote desktop. i loaded cod to c:/program files/cod. the config it talks about, default_mp.cfg is located in the first pk3 file(sorry forgot the name and im at work) . I looked at it and it was not a blank file. it did have some bind settings for movement ect. the extension in the bat file i used was
"C:\Program Files\Call of Duty\CoDMP.exe" +set dedicated 2 +exec dedicated.cfg +map_rotate
i followed the directions melon (actvision Production Coordinator) gave.
I ran a server on my computer, wich i also could not get to work with the bat file, through the game as a dedicated server and scrolled up in the consol and it said it exec the default_mp.cfg. I dont understand why it will run through the game and not with the bat. any other ideas or questions? Please help!! :)
im trying to run a server with search and destroy. i even tried clickbouyow's config and it didnt work. Man i know this is going to turn out to be some stupid mistake of mine!! once again i thank all who respond.

Does the console stay up after you get the error? If so, type path and post what it says.

ha ha ha. Well thanks very much cause that last post made me figure it out! and yes it was something stupid. i was execing the bat file from the desktop. i didnt know it had to be in the cod folder. You guys rock and thanks for all the help.
