I have 2 computers and I wanted to set up a small private passworded server for about 5-6 friends. Loaded the game on both computers and set up a server inputting all the parameters from the normal game interface. I see the server in the internet list on my other computer that I want to play from. When I start the game the server goes into a console screen about which I know squat. Games plays fine but when it is over on the server machine I am still looking at a console just sitting there. I had hoped it would go back into a normal interface that it started with so I could then select another map and game. That's all we want to do. Play a map and then select another one etc etc. Appreciate any help.

If you want an easy interface for selecting maps, etc, then just run a listen server which means just run the server from the same computer you're playing on.

Unfortunately my game machine is behind a firewall but the server is not. I have run a Freelancer server from that box and would really like to not burden my game machine with the server anyway.

please exsplain?
you setup a CoD server on one box.
When you start the second box from the MP icon on your desktop it opens the square console window?
If so , make sure the computer you want to play on does not have the deveoper 2 set in the shortcut.
If for some reason, it does not and your still getting that when you start the game from the CODmp.exe. check config_mp.cfg and see it you have the developer 2 in their, if so remove it or better yet, rem it out by placing // in front of it.

I start the computer I want to use a server and set up an internet server. I get the normal graphics and menus. Once I have selected everything I want I hit the start button and my screen changes to a console with a lot of text going by. I expect it is all the game instructions being processed. That console screen sits there as the game is going on. I go on my game computer and I see the server in the normal list, can get on it and play the game. When the game time expires I get the normal finishing screen on my game machine. Looking over at the server it is still in concole mode just sitting there. Now I want to select another map on the server but I no longer have the interface I started with to do that, just the console sitting there. Now I just close the server console and reboot the program starting it all over again to get a new set up. It would seem that once a game is over you should be able to tell the server "give me back my interface" so I can start another game rather than go through the reboot process.

Rudedog, he's just starting a dedicated server from the GUI by choosing the "Start New Server" option. This doesn't setup any map rotation so I think it just stays on one map or does nothing at the end of the first. I don't think there's a way to take it back to the GUI interface from the dedicated console screen. I looked, there's only 57 commands in cmdlist at that time and there's nothing that looks obvious.
Saracen, you're pretty much going to have to learn a little bit about running the server in dedicated mode without a GUI. Probably the easiest thing to do is to do the following...
Decide on the gametype you want
Go to Start New Server, choose dedicated-internet and hit Start
On the console window, type exec server_???.cfg where ??? is either dm for Deathmatch, tdm for Team Deathmatch, sd for Search and Destroy, re for Retrieval, and bel for Behind Enemy Lines. So if you want Team Deathmatch, type exec server_tdm.cfg
Next type map_rotate which will kick things off
Your server will then rotate through all the maps of the game type you've chosen
Not the best solution but it'd be better than having to quit and restart the server after playing every map. If you want to play a different game type, you're better off just restarting the server.

Great that sounds easy enough. If I want to change some game parameters like time limit or move on to a different map I assume a reboot of game will be necessary. Is there a list and explanation of the commands that you can use in the console? Perhaps I can learn those and that would help as well. Thank you.

I just took another look at the GUI setup and just noticed the Game Type Settings button. Here's an updated list of instructions...
Go to Start New Server
Choose dedicated-internet
Choose the game type you want
Click the Game Type Settings button and select the parameters you want
Click Start
On the console window, type exec server_???.cfg where ??? is either dm for Deathmatch, tdm for Team Deathmatch, sd for Search and Destroy, re for Retrieval, and bel for Behind Enemy Lines. So if you want Team Deathmatch, type exec server_tdm.cfg
Next type map_rotate which will kick things off
Your server will then rotate through all the maps of the game type you've chosen
If you want to move to another map just type map_rotate again in the console and it'll move to the next map in the rotation.
A good place to begin learning all the thing you can do at the console is to look at this URL: http://www.infinityward.com/cod/server%20commands.html.

I thougth I posted this before, but my mind is slipping :?
I added a zip file to the admin tools download. You can grab all the different game type map pack cfg files.
